I worked at Citrix full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good benefits, good communication and decent managers up the chain

    Cons

Hard to get noticed if you’re not in sales or in Ft Lauderdale. If remote you’re invisible and get forgotten.

    Advice to Management

Keep the focus on the future but remember ‘work is not a place’ applies to your own employees as much as your customers.

I worked at Citrix full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Products are awesome though often niche - Move to cloud services seems managed - One of the few strong large tech companies in Florida

    Cons

    - Blind to competition strength - Beholden to activist investors which has destroyed employee morale and led to poor short term decisions - Marketing message is soft and too concerned about how it will be perceived if there is any aggressive stance taken.

    Advice to Management

At some point a long term vision and a willingness to take some risk has to supersede the needs of investors who want a return today at the cost of the company. The loss of identity and culture due to Elliot's interference will long term hurt the organization

I have been working at Citrix full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great work flexibility. Technically the products are the best in the market ( but the company's ability to sell and market the products is a distinct second to their major competitors VMWare and F5, who are massively outmaneuvering them) Fairly good comp. and benefits.

    Cons

Aging portfolio of products - Citrix is largely focused on Desktop / App virtualization as it has for the last 28 years. This market has slowed, and VMWare is really leading it. Unless Citrix truly innovates, then its going to die slowly. Transition to Cloud does not increase its potential market, its just a change in delivery mechanism! Citrix needs to truly invest in a new market segment, which is unlikely with an activist investor on the board focused on the stock value. HR is poor and policies are inconsistency applied. Too many folk are fired with no reason or explanation(per 'at-will' employment). The processes and procedures are a thin veneer. A series of substantial layoffs have killed employee confidence and loyalty (2000 people, then another 850 only a couple of months after the CEO had said there would not be more layoffs!!) There is continual churn through the executive levels, including the CEO. This leads to inconsistent strategy and a failure to execute. David Henshall is probably the optimal CEO in terms of stabilizing the company, and is very competent, but it remains to be seen if he can really inspire the company.

    Advice to Management

Align on a clear strategy and move into new markets. The cloud transition message will only motivate the troops for so long. Refine HR processes and apply them fairly - "values" statements need to be more than posters throughout the building. Citrix was known for having a great culture, but its apparent that this was more of a thing from the past.

I worked at Citrix full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits and fair salaries. Work very challenging with really smart people. Company facing interesting challenges as it works to evolve in a very competitive environment.

    Cons

There is Way too much instability and change. Strategy has become less clear as time went on. Now less focused on people.

I worked at Citrix full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Generally good colleagues - Work from anywhere culture - Good work/life balance - Strong company brand and awareness - Still one of the best tech companies in South Florida

    Cons

    - Constant churn in management (4 CEOs in 3 years) and regular mass-layoff events - Little to no real innovation - Microsoft shadow over the company; any new innovation is subject to being killed if asked to by the Redmond godfathers - Not a very interesting company relative to others in the SF Bay area.

    Advice to Management

    - Create and articulate a coherent and innovative strategy. Simply saying the word "Cloud" over and over is not a strategy, nor is it a coherent message. - Split up the company further to liberate employees and deliver more value to shareholders. The GoTo spinoff has been successful. You should do more of this with other businesses within the company that are are held back because they are part of Citrix. - Stop buying innovative companies and technologies, and then kill them or let them wither on the vine.
