They cannot compete with the market pay, because of which they are loosing all the good employees.

I worked at Citrix (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The work culture is fantastic. There were lots of perks while working at the main campus. The work from home policy was also very flexible.

    Cons

The upper and middle management had several major instances of reorganization. This shifted around managers that actually cared about their employees to those that didn't. There are many people who are able to brown nose their way to higher positions and its pretty evident that they did not get there based on merit.

    Advice to Management

This company has made many mistakes over the past few years. It seems like there is a lot of damage control occurring in order to repair previous issues. I would greatly work on your current staff instead of relying on layoffs. You invest so much into your employees only to waste it and throw it away when its convenient for you.

I have been working at Citrix full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedules. Great work/life balance. Good benefits. Perfect weather.

    Cons

Pay is below market. Frequent reorganizations. Almost no project management or HR support.

    Advice to Management

Pay rates are years behind the market and haven't been adjusted. Project management is undervalued and burdens the management level. HR business partners support so many employees that they are over-burdened and cannot take on anything but emergencies.

I worked at Citrix full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people I worked with were some of the absolute best. The company really does work to make a culture of friendly competition and camaraderie.

The soft perks like the free snacks and drinks were also a nice touch, along with the nigh-constant outings. Plus, they did their absolute best to try to train people as they moved up the ranks, so the sales floor can really be a fast track to solid earning potential if treated properly.

If you're starting out in sales support: talk to the people you support! Be friends with the renewals manager, make sure your big wins are shouted from the rooftops by your peers and make yourself invaluable. You could genuinely be making bonus checks in three months.

Plus, it doesn't hurt to be a little bit schmoozy.

    Cons

While Citrix itself promoted a culture of inclusiveness and teamwork, some of the managers on the floor didn't seem to get the memo. A few in particular felt that encouragement was best done via the occasional public humiliation (an example comes to mind of one director calling out the top rep on the floor in front of everyone because his call volume was slightly lower than normal).

I get it; it's a metric-driven business, and the C-levels don't like seeing low numbers. But the heavy focus on frills metrics like call-volume -especially when it's been suggested time and time again that call-volume doesn't necessarily equate to higher pipeline- puts stress on areas that don't add up.

Also, the floor is certainly on the younger side. Not a problem for everyone, and certainly a pro if you're fresh out of college/under 30, it can be tough to keep up if you've got more adult priorities.

    Advice to Management

You guys have an amazing team of sales people on your hands; work to keep them! Especially when so much time and money is invested into training. It's really easy to lose great reps to our partners/competition, especially if you're not doing anything to incentivize them to stick around other than dangling a carrot with the letters "FSM" carved into it.

Also, lay off on the call volume, especially if the reps are doing well.

Oh, and we tout the "work anywhere" philosophy, but recoil in horror whenever it's brought up for our own employees. Give them a chance! If they're going to be in the field someday, they're going to have to learn time management skills without an overbearing manager breathing down their shirt.

I have been working at Citrix full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Collaborative: intelligent jerks are frowned upon. Competitive salary. Products selling well. Central location in Silicon Valley and still has cubicles!

    Cons

Big branch in Bangalore, so frequent late night calls. NetScaler division has very high percentage of Indians. Lacks diversity in Santa Clara.

    Advice to Management

Get leaders from companies that are cloud first and data first. Pay them well. Else you cannot execute your vision.

    Pros

Work life balance here is nice.... they offer a flexible work schedule

    Cons

Management is all about perception vs. reality. The worker bees do all the work and management sits around and chats all day. There is a Sr. Manager who never shows up to the office and pawns his work off to others while a Group Manager disrespects his employees, cancels meetings constantly and expects everyone to shuffle their schedule around him. This is bad.

    Advice to Management

Review your "managers" and make sure they are "leaders" and not just the title of Manager based on years of experience. There is clearly a difference.

I have been working at Citrix full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great environment. Love the people here.

    Cons

They have changed a lot over the last 6 months. I work for ShareFile in Raleigh and they changed a lot too fast and it just feels super corporate now. They're losing a lot of people who have been here for years- which is a feat in itself. They have been making many cutbacks and it just felt like they didn't talk to anyone on the sales side to understand what would be a fair transition.

    Advice to Management

Everyone is trying to move to management as it is the only position within sales that has more security, so very hard to move up at this point.
