    A good place to work

    Pros

    CBS offered me a role that would really help my development and help me to increase my technical skills. We work with a diverse userbase and whilst some clients can be difficult, most are a joy to work with. The service desk manager is really friendly, easy to get on with and really supports his staff. I never feel under too much pressure and I am always able to talk through any issues and get offered real, and valuable support. He leads by example and i think really gets the best from me and the other people on the service desk and it has become a really friendly team to work on. The directors are friendly but unforgiving if mistakes are made. I think I may be able to move onto the support desk but it depends if an opportunity comes up. I haven't seen anybody move from the service desk into support. We do get taken out for meals or drinks a few times a year which is really nice.

    Cons

    No consideration for paying for courses to help my development and I feel the pay is a bit poor.

    Pros

    -Flexible Technical environment: Rather than a strict 1st- 3rd line system the engineering department works in two distinct sections meaning Service Desk engineers have an opportunity to tackle more complex problems when they feel confident -promotion from within is probable if you develop noticeable niche skills or push yourself and gain favour with the Senior engineering department -established clientele are good to work with -willing to take on juniors or people with extremely limited experience and train them within -you don't have a lot of outside of office work until you are senior or if you ask for it. -Manager of the Senior Engineer Desk is a pleasure to work with and fights for staff members - has real management and technical skills

    Cons

    -No break room or facilities beyond toilets -inflexible environment where any "unauthorised overtime" is not paid even if it is firefighting/crisis management but approving extra pay or having time off is NEARLY impossible -High turnover of engineer staff including seniors -stagnant and mostly useless senior and junior staff alike who are spared judgement because of mild manners or acceptable conduct -poor conduct and/or low performance staff are apparently a huge chore to dismiss even if consistent complaints are received from senior engineers and management -Management and senior members of staff are gifted with the illusion of power -little to no training unless learning from senior engineers at the business -some jobs and tasks are assigned without training - failure will still result in shaming -recruitment is performed counter-productively -Stakeholders exercise a greedy approach to taking on new business regardless of staffing situation(s) -quotations and projects are approved above engineering level often without the consent of engineers who carry out the work and without reviewing their workloads -Underpaid staff in general -Promotions/appraisals are given annually (only if asked) and normally result in a minimal payrise, payrises barely differ between good/bad staff and highest payrise to be received is when you threaten to leave and you are useful -Stakeholders are cold and separated from staff and often impersonal

    Pros

    Good way to get into the industry, thrown into the deep end fairly quickly

    Cons

    Because of the companies size, there is little opportunity to get to enterprise level and really progress
