I worked at City College of San Francisco part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The students are what it's all about! They are an inspiration and I am proud to have worked with and for them as adjunct faculty. Every day is different, and if you choose to, you can always feel challenged by learning new teaching methods and new ways to connect with your students. I loved this part of working there and consider it an honor to have had the opportunity.

    Cons

The administration, and even my department chair, let you know-constantly--that you are replaceable and unimportant. Even tenured faculty feel resentful and unappreciated. While the pay is good compared to other community colleges, I made less than minimum wage based on the number of hours I put in for each class. And the union will always sell out the part-timers in favor of the full timers. It's heart breaking. From semester to semester there is no job security for adjuncts, so it is a stressful way to live.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and recognize that your faculty are not the problem, they are the solution.

I have been working at City College of San Francisco part-time

    Pros

The students on campus are great. They were super helpful to me as I was getting ready for my interview with 3 senior level staff members.

    Cons

As an incoming part-time person, you don't know when you will be able to work. It takes an incredibly long time time to find out if you will be teaching which makes it difficult to plan your schedule

I have been working at City College of San Francisco (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly faculty. Friendly staff. Best hourly pay for adjuncts anywhere.

    Cons

If you're an adjunct with a master's, you will get passed over for full-time positions because they prefer a PhD. No interview, despite years of experience with that particular student population. The classroom technology s outdated.Despite the pay being higher than most places, the high cost of living makes the point moot.

    Pros

Great for killing time between classes as a student and to interact with students and staff.

    Cons

$10.25/hr and no benefits and you get less than 12 hrs. a week.

    Advice to Management

Hire less aides and give them more hours or pay more money.
