I have been working at City National Bank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Culture, brand, and values. CNB was very much a employee focused bank which in turn reflected on keeping clients happy.

    Cons

Since RBC took over those things seem to be changing. We are no longer a client driven bank but turning into a profit driven one where employees come last.

    Advice to Management

Compensate for work done. Better life/work balance.

I have been working at City National Bank full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I have never had a job where I have been surrounded by so many wonderful people. There are thousands of years of incredibly valuable leadership within this organization and for anyone earlier in their career, seeking opportunities for growth and development, CNB is the place to be. Yes, we are a bank, but don't you worry, we operate like any other organization requiring the skill sets of all backgrounds. Join our team, I promise you won't be disappointed.

    Cons

CNB is in the middle of a fairly aggressive 5 year growth initiative that while quite positive for the organization as a whole, can be a tad intimidating to newcomers. This organization will absolutely offer you the opportunities you seek, but be ready to do your part.

    Advice to Management

Continue to manage change effectively and everything else will fall in place.

    Pros

City National Bank is invested in employee personal growth and as a 30 year veteran, I can attest to upward mobility opportunities being abundant. This is a company that believes in giving back to the community not just for CRA purposes but truly from a belief in making people's lives better.

    Pros

Work/life balance, all hands on deck

    Cons

Growth opportunities are limited. Management keeps you where you are for what they hired you for. Since bankers bring in the money, that is ALL the bank cares about and WHO they care about most.

    Advice to Management

Work more on compensation since we are all dealing with such high client profiles and very demanding relationship managers.

    Pros

This company REALLY cares about its people and its customers. The employees here are deeply loyal. CNB puts its clients and staff first and it shows in everything it does. Work-life balance is a strong value here. High-touch client experience is a strong value. CNB is playing the long-game. Recently acquired by Royal Bank of Canada, creating an infusion of investment in the business.

    Cons

Some growing pains with infrastructure, but the company is working on it!

    Advice to Management

Time to invest in robust cross-organizational, sales and career training. Get brave and invest in leading-edge digital banking and payments: growth without brick-and-mortar.
