    Pros

NCH has a great community and its managers did a fantastic job of interacting with the staff.

    Cons

The downside is that not all of the employees pulled their weight and sometimes things were unclear of what to do.

    Advice to Management

Keep on being friendly with the employees because it makes work enjoyable but don't be afraid to lay down the law sometimes.

I have been working at City Of Naperville full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Hardworking people that aren't in management positions. Employees are dedicated and some will go above and beyond what they do.

    Cons

Salary is very low compared to other cities. Employees are doing more than two jobs due to not hiring more people.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to get to know your employees and see what they really do in their jobs. Don't assume you know what they do based on what other people think.

I have been working at City Of Naperville full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of new toys and equipment to use throughout all of the city's departments. It seems as if money is no issue for the right cause.

    Cons

The city is one of the lowest paying cities in Illinois and now with one of the worst time off policies around, it's no wonder the turnover rate here is so high.

    Pros

Light work load. Very safety orientated. Nice people to work with.

    Cons

Lower pay than private counterparts. Upper management slowly taking more and more benefits away from employees.

    Pros

After two weeks you won't enjoy your work. You will soon find out that everything about interview was just lie.

    Cons

Worst work place to ever work for. Turn around is higher. The salary and benefits are not upto standards of living.

    Advice to Management

    Get the ethics in control.

    Pros

The view from City Hall is beautiful.

    Cons

It is staffed by employees who are related to each other. It is very clique. If you are not accepted into the clique they will make your life miserable. As they like to promote from within, employees are promoted above their ability and knowledge. It is also very political at City Hall. Human Resources will not help you, they are on management's side. There are many "career opportunities" at Naperville, as employees have leaving quickly.

    Advice to Management

    Hire some fresh faces.

I worked at City Of Naperville full-time

    Pros

A place where you can really learn if you are self motivated. Never had an issue using vacation days like at other places i have worked. Provides an opportunity with just a few years of experience, you will build enough experience to be actively recruited by others for significantly more pay.

    Cons

Low pay, sub-par benefits when compared to other municipalities and electric utilities. Naperville has low pay scales for most professional and management non union positions and city council/manager refuses to acknowledge it, hence why employees are constantly being stolen. Just like another reviewer said, the good employees are actively being recruited by others firms and stolen (several by Com Ed, Winetka, GE, St Charles, the list goes on). There is no reason to stay when you are being offered 15% - 25% more by other companies to do the same job (the main reason why i left as you can only have so much loyalty when you are underpaid by so much).

    Advice to Management

It seems like Naperville is on the radar of other utilities, because the top talent is being heavily recruited. Raise your pay scales to become in line with the real market (not the fake market HR claims when it does its compensation comparisons) . For example, use salary comparisons to what Exelon/ComEd is paying engineers or lineman, not what some small city in the middle of nowhere is paying for a real comparison of salaries because that is your real competitor in the market.

I worked at City Of Naperville full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

great pay, some of the coworkers were easy to get along with

    Cons

most of the coworkers were not willing to let a new person feel included, as mentioned, the training was VERY unorganized and although they had a training manual, being passed around from trainer to trainer with no one training the same thing was frustrating, rotating shifts can be a problem if you have any sort of life or family.

    Advice to Management

Get standardized training and organize a little bit more. Try to encourage making new employees feel welcome and wanted.

    Pros

Pay and benefits were ok. Nice downtown area to work in. Seemed comparable to other local governments in the area.

    Cons

No major cons. All in all, not a bad place if you can get in.
