I have been working at City Schools of Decatur full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities to learn and collaborate, highly committed educators who genuinely care about students, the community and each other. The culture of the school is welcoming.

    Cons

Constant rate of change within GA and the district. Teachers have a new evaluation system, new curriculum, and administrators. The growth of the school system causes anxiety because the students won't fit in our current facilites and yet the city continues to move toward annexation.

    Advice to Management

Package change in manageable ways--help teachers focus by handling issues that are not about instruction. Change is hard so communicate effectively while also being efficient and economical. Protect teachers from new initiatives.

    Pros

Excellent for work and personal balance. Rate of compensation for assignments attractive.

    Cons

Aesop System would not allow access to assignments during certain periods of times, From the 1st year to year 2016, there has been incidents were the Aesop online system is not responding appropriately to requesting and receiving assignment communications.

    Advice to Management

Continue to ensure equality for all stakeholders.

    Pros

Great work environment. Great people to work with, even though it doesn't seem like you are working but instead like collaborating with family members. Great community involvement with the school system.

    Cons

I can't really think of any cons, but I am typing this because section had a 20 word minimum.

    Pros

    Kids are awesome..
Education is a priority in the community
Lots of opportunities for professional development
    Co-workers are very hard working.

    Cons

Parents can be stressful to deal with
Management of schools is very hierarchical
    Union is not very strong
There is not much support for teachers who are struggling

    Advice to Management

Decatur City Schools are a great place to send your kids to school, but the stress on teachers is unfortunately extremely high, and they are not always supported when they need help from higher-ups. Work/life balance is very good...keep up the good work. Consider involving teachers in the decision making process and not imposing surprises on them.

I have been working at City Schools of Decatur full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful teaching environment (if you don't need guidance as a new teacher). Great students with supportive parents. The admin team is supportive of teachers that want to grow and will allow PL for your areas of need as demonstrated by the School Improvement Plan.

    Cons

In the process of formalizing an overall governing/management structure so consistency is lacking at this time. With the goal of everyone passing despite the rigors of course work, there is high pressure to pass all students (by giving them opportunity on top of opportunity to complete missed work, be it assignment or test).

    Advice to Management

If teachers are able to prove a student shouldn't pass (due to complete lack of effort, absenteeism, etc.), take some of the pressure off the teacher and put it on the student to want to succeed.

I have been working at City Schools of Decatur full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The students really enjoy school and they are well behaved and respectful relative to most schools in 2016.

    Cons

The teachers are incompetent, the administration is unprofessional and disorganized, the central office is overbearing and does not allow the principal to do her job, you are overworked and underpaid. Its the lowest paid school district in metro Atlanta.
The school's reputation is because the students are hard working and their thirst for knowledge is extremely high relative to most schools. The teachers are mediocre at best and many of the students do not reach their full potential because the teaching is so bad.

    Advice to Management

None- the problems are over your head. The central office is too overbearing to listen to the black female principal.

    Pros

CSD has amazing students at the elementary level and involved parents.

    Cons

Leadership needs work on dealing with a diverse student body as well as teaching body.

I worked at City Schools of Decatur full-time

    Pros

Wonderful team work environment. Students always came first and the community plays a big role in school decisions. Great place to work.

    Cons

At the time it position only received parador pay, even if the person holding the position was a certified teacher. Despite the pay rate the poison was treated with respect.

    Advice to Management

I don't have much advice for the the leadership, as I thought they did a great job with all aspects of the school. It is a true community school system.
