I have been working at City of Ames, Iowa full-time

    Pros

    Great benefits, retirement, fitness subsidies

    Cons

Leadership is resistant to change and many policies are outdated. Too many acronyms and talking about being better rather than doing actual things to become better. Morale is generally low.

    Advice to Management

Put your money where your mouth is.

I worked at City of Ames, Iowa part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Driving a city bus gives a fun challenge to be learned. High pay and nice people to work with. Get to interact with people all day.

    Cons

Positions are only part time, and getting hours in the summer is extremely difficult. Winter weather can create stressful situations. And driving later in the day can be frustrating when trying to find an available restroom that's open to the public while staying within a time schedule.

    Pros

Very flexible schedule, follows Iowa State University schedule, a raise every year, room to grow and expand the programs, flexibility to learn how to be a good supervisor.

    Cons

Lower pay than other places in town, management does not always get back to you in a timely manner.

    Advice to Management

Try to respond to your employees in a timely matter so they can best improve the program they are working on.
