Getting to see the performances was cool. Also we received some free stuff.

I have been working at City of Anaheim California full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits hands down. Sick time, vacation pay, often times work hours but that all varies by your supervisor. Having a good one makes work 10x better.

    Cons

Bad management and the same job protection given to the employees is also given to the management.

    Advice to Management

    Work with employees not against.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at City of Anaheim California part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This department (One Stop Employment Center) provided a service to the public. My experience there was favorable overall. Minimal meetings was a plus for me.

    Cons

At that time in 2014 there was no security provided on site. We could call City Hall if needed and they usually came within 2 minutes. But unemployed clients can sometimes be difficult and an on-site security person would have helped. There is now on-site security.

    Advice to Management

My direct managers for the duration of my 10 year employment was very good. Did not micro-manage as some might. I felt that they gave the right amount of direction.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at City of Anaheim California part-time

    Pros

Great co-workers, very family-oriented. In most cases understanding if you need time off or a more flexible schedule for school.

    Cons

Budget cuts to the city directly affect you with less hours or layoffs. Very slow to hire new people if understaffed. They say they promote from within but in some cases hired outside people over employees who have been with the city for years already. Management extremely fearful of breaking even small rules.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more opportunities to go through training and learn new skills instead of doing the same monotonous job over and over. Promote and hire from within.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at City of Anaheim California (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Benefits, medium large city, people

    Cons

Issues with management and leadership. Employees are taken advantage of in a variety of situations. While there are good people there, some executive management and council are highly contentious and not good leaders or positive role models.

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk. Culture & strong leadership are lacking. There's tremendous untapped potential. Take care of your employees if you expect them to go above & beyond.
