    Advice to Management

    Fire incompetent staff, raise salaries.

I worked at City of Atlanta full-time

    Pros

Job security, low expectations (easy to stand out and impress)

    Cons

No opportunities for advancement, management inefficiencies, poor organization morale, extremely difficult to fire anyone and so place is rife with incompetent employees, anyone who is bright, has a lot to offer, and cares about their career advancement will leave

    Advice to Management

Municipalities are known for being inefficient and bureaucratic, but Atlanta takes it to the extreme. Reduce the red tape, increase standards of service and performance, and fire people who aren't performing to those standards.

I have been working at City of Atlanta full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is chance to work overtime. A chance to gain access to educational tools, professional development and support and longevity.

    Cons

Stagnated thinking, management can be relaxed or strict, either way it has an effect. HR is horrible and dissemination of information is difficult.

    Advice to Management

Give employees the opportunity to learn and grow as much as feasibly possible. Take refresher courses on leadership, management with emphasis on employee support.

I have been working at City of Atlanta full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This department is good to get your foot in the door. If you want to work in a special unit, this is the department for you. The pay is decent and there's a lot of extra jobs that pay up to $50 an hour. You can gain a lot of experience/training here. It's also very easy to move up.

    Cons

You're just a body to your supervisors. If you get caught up in something, your supervisors/the department will not have your back. They see you as a liability to them. The retirement sucks. There's no take home cars unless you live in the zone you work, then they'll give you a car that barely runs with no A/C.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to improve moral. There's officers on my watch sicking out/calling off literally everyday. The amount of officers leaving is ridiculous. They have rookies field training new officers.
