I worked at City of Cedar Rapids part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Of the many pools I worked at and managed, Cedar Rapids' Aquatics program was the best. The culture is one of hard work and fun. The supervisor is well known among aquatics programmers in Iowa as having one of the best-trained staff and the most efficient policies for safely running pools. Hiring and work assignments were thought out and made it extremely inclusive and friendly to work. Management has a lot of training and doesn't slack off. Good pay and a lot of hours also make it a great high school / college job.

    Cons

Summers are definitely the best time to work, and off-season work is both scarce and boring at the small indoor pool. Sometimes the distinct pool assignments mean you get stuck at smaller pools with less action and fewer staff. However, assigning staff to pools is still superior to moving people around all the time because it means you can have a place and some people to get used to.

    Advice to Management

Keep expecting the best from staff and encouraging good staff to return and take on management positions!

    Pros

Great job, especially if you like being outside and working with people. Teaching lessons is optional but a great addition to the job.

    Cons

Working with the public can be challenging at times, other than that, no down side.

I have been working at City of Cedar Rapids as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

No real pros.No real pros.No real pros.No real pros.No real pros.

    Cons

Work wasn't challenging. Low compensation. No growth potential. No reference will be provided at the end of the internship, due to upper management requirement to avoid law suit - what a joke. Just a summer job. Go better places.

    Advice to Management

    Overhaul internship program.
