I worked at City of Chandler full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, ok pay. Lots of good hard working employees who care about the city they serve even in spite of bad managers.

    Cons

Horrible mgt all the way to the top. Mgt have each other's backs but not the employees. No mgr ever gets laid off or fired they just get promoted for doing bad things. This helps to cover up their poor treatment of employees.

    Advice to Management

Next time you have a downsizing try getting rid of the dry rot you call mgt. City council you need to take a good look at what Mgrs are really doing.

I worked at City of Chandler (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay was higher than other jobs for High Schoolers, everyone was about the same age which made it easy to relate to your coworkers an managers

    Cons

It was a summer outdoor job with extremely long hours, most patrons saw you as a glorified baby sitter instead of as a lifeguard

    Advice to Management

Hiring more guards and shortening shifts would increase guard attentiveness and efficiency. Also, the group lifeguard fitness was unnecessary.

I worked at City of Chandler part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Best job for someone looking an easy and fun job. More fit for a fitness enthusiast that knows they are talking about when customers ask questions. Advancement can happen within months which is great!

    Cons

Pay is low and there are 5 specific shifts a day and weekends consist of two to three shift times.

    Advice to Management

Linda is awesome and I enjoyed her being my supervisor while I worked there.

I worked at City of Chandler part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, many friendly people in management. I hear there have been several positive changes since I left due to personal reasons.

    Cons

It paid too little to keep people who knew what they were doing, so they left. Then no one knew what to do anymore, and it was like flying by the seat of your pants with patrons every day.

Frequently was ordered to do menial tasks by one superior, then chastised by another superior for getting distracted by irrelevant work. This happened a lot.

    Advice to Management

Let Tech Clerks do more, or encourage the people above you to let them do more. So much wasted employee utilization.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at City of Chandler full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is competitive, city is well-managed, most employees are very friendly and eager to help.

    Cons

Poorly run individual departments, very top-heavy with high, mid and low-level managers, no work-life balance, benefits extremely expensive with each passing year, no regard for employee morale.

    Advice to Management

Worry more about employee morale so that, at the very least, your overall work product will improve. Offer better training opportunities. Treat employees with respect and communicate better - not everything has to be a huge secret. Promote creativity and offer more employee support.
