I worked at City of Chattanooga full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great Coworkers, the culture is fantastic because of the individuals you get to work with. The benefits are great as well, 36 PTO days per year!

    Cons

City processes are slow and create many headaches. Everyone has to run everything up the chain in order for anything to get approved. Ultimately the Mayor’s Office makes all the decisions, and you have to do things even if it feels unethical.

I have been working at City of Chattanooga full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Safe, reliable, straight-forward jobs. Ok place if you need the benefits or want the reliability.

    Cons

Another example of government being slow. Salaries are low. Many people just punching a clock and can be difficult to work with.

I have been working at City of Chattanooga full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lots of PTO. That's the only pro.

    Cons

Horribly low pay. Seriously, the bottom 7 or 8 pay grades in the city pay plan have to automatically be bumped up to the living wage when you hire someone at that grade. Complete micromanagement from the top. Support organizations like HR, IT, and purchasing offer no support; they set up their own rules without considering other departments then just don't perform their function. It's an awful place to work.

I worked at City of Chattanooga full-time for less than a year

    Pros

New office space, get to work on a variety of equipment to work on

    Cons

This was by the far worst managed network I have ever stepped into. Management also in the IT department is lacking and I would go so far to say textbook bad. For example, there is no communication from management, apparently some people believe no communication is good communication when in fact it is classic bad communication. Stepping into the position the other engineer left after a few weeks since he wanted to jump ship once he figured out how bad it was there. One of my coworkers who had worked there a long time described it as a dumpster fire. I would look elsewhere if you get an offer from here.

I have been working at City of Chattanooga full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Generally stable employment once probation period is over. Benefits package is decent.

    Cons

Management organization does not have a very modern approach it is a very from the top down micro-managed style that makes it hard for innovation and forward thinking to thrive. Individuals can feel "lost" in all of it. Salary scale for expected skill sets is very low.

I have been working at City of Chattanooga full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    It's a job....Benefits are marginal

    Cons

Politics, Politics, Politics.. some of those in Management are shortsighted and fail to emplement plans for success in programs. Fail to recognize accomplishment and adequately reward those with the education and understanding of the programs. Some managers love to gossip instead of working to resolve solutions and look for scape goats to cover their incompetence in bringing team's together. There have been many to fall victim to being a scape goat.

    Pros

    Good benefits for entire family.

    Cons

No way to really advance yourself or switch to a different job to which you are more suited. Depending on department, not team oriented. People can slide by using Facebook while others work. No repercussions. No training available.
