I have been working at City of Coral Gables full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Great health benefits. Lots of PTO and Holidays. Beautiful city to work in. Lots of great food and places to go after work. Tuition reimbursement. Parking perks. Making friends with the Police and Fire Department also has its perks. Most employees are generally nice people to work with.

    Cons

Salary for most non-public-safety positions is well below private sector salaries for comparable positions. Raises have been reduced or eliminated. Opportunity for advancement is non-existent. 17% mandatory salary contribution before taxes to retirement fund for non-exempt employees, 15% for exempt.

    Advice to Management

You're never going to attract or retain talent worthy of this historic city by continuing to treat its employees as expendable cost centers.
