I have been working at City of Corona full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work is interesting. I enjoy the day to day activities, there is always something interesting to do or see, public service is awarding.

    Cons

The bureaucratic and tyrannical style of management is tiresome, it is at times stressful and appears to have motivated agendas, it is a morale destroyer.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees as much as your citizens opinions.

I worked at City of Corona full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are some really good people that work here. They really care about doing a good job and the community they support.

    Cons

There are some really bad people that work here too, that don't care about anyone but themselves. In my dept, the Director had no social or managerial skills despite the city providing management training and formal education to this person. When this Director left his job, the entire dept let out a big sigh of relief.

    Advice to Management

Management at the top has been tough but fair. I think they are doing a good job. I've noticed more attention being placed on accountability, which is great.

    Pros

Economic Development is a small department so it's easy to get to know everyone there.

    Cons

Much of the office goes to the same church and are are all Republican, and those who aren't will find themselves quickly laid off. Leadership in Economic Development is weak, and the lack of leadership leads those in higher positions to vent out their frustration on underlings. "Interns" are hired and treated as full time employees with no benefits and less oversight than one would wish from an actual internship. The only reason it's called an internship is so that they don't have to pay benefits to a full timer. Mistakes are not tolerated. People are hired and fired based on who they know, rather than what they know.
