I have been working at City of Dearborn, Michigan part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, straightforward job, and easy to work with staff

    Cons

Staff can get pretty small which then creates more pressure to pick up more shifts.

I worked at City of Dearborn, Michigan part-time

    Pros

Great place for career building and part time work while in school

    Cons

Could use some additional staffing to pools outdoors and reopen some of the best community pools

    Advice to Management

Reopen the community pools that made the city so great.

I worked at City of Dearborn, Michigan part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling and good for gaining experience, I guess. If you're a director you'll be making more money than all of your underlings combined.

    Cons

The single most toxic work environment I've encountered in my professional career. Never have I felt more alienated and insignificant than working for the City of Dearborn. I don't know if the administration anticipated to have a brigade of miserable, overburdened part-time employees, but that certainly seems to be their widest demographic now.

The pay is insulting, especially for the workload. Get a job somewhere else and save yourself the headache.

    Advice to Management

Maybe if they actually invested in employees instead of gouging wages and splitting up every full-time position, they could actually provide decent service and be a decent place to work. You could find better wages and benefits working for a big-box retailer.

I have been working at City of Dearborn, Michigan part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Steady employment for loyal employees; moved up from entry level page; ability to transfer departments as positions open. Can make some lasting friendships.

    Cons

Department managers aren't trained as managers (promoted librarians). Adverse situations are typically handled poorly. Management is slightly detached from what goes on upstairs. Huge amount of pettiness among building department heads. To keep attention off themselves, supervisors play games, and cause trouble for lower staff. Too much trouble mongering. After being there so long, I can't wait to get out. Tired of the lies and games.

    Advice to Management

Pay closer attention to your supervisors. Some have forgotten what it was like starting out and have become very jaded and petty. Too many people have gotten too comfortable in their positions of leadership and are sloppy and intentional trouble mongers.

I have been working at City of Dearborn, Michigan full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Vacation pay, management does not watch employees.

    Cons

Highways managers treat employees very bad. DPW Director works 3 hours a day. Works out the Civic Center from 11:00am-1:30pm then goes home. They waste tons of money and are not accountable.

    Advice to Management

Resign! Let qualified Managers run the Government.
