Great benefits, great community, thriving economy

Downtown parking is a hassle

The departments within the city (city shops, ECPD/ECFD, streets, parks) are great and to an extent can be ran themselves.

Cons

Those that work for city hall, HR, etc. have the final say really in anything, doesn’t matter how great your internal department is. If you work for the City of Eau Claire, prepare for constant battles between these folks and constantly juggling city politics. I am so disappointed by the countless negative experiences our employees have experienced due to this employer.

Very difficult to get interview even with qualifications being met. Have seen questionable circumstances that people have been fired for where person was let go without having any clear communication beforehand about what they were doing wrong. Do not have a lot of respect for internal communications.

Greatest people I have ever worked with. Unique experience opportunity. There is usually down time to relax or do homework for students, though some night are crazy. I got to head a few criminal investigations.

Can be really menial work. There is general community support for the police in Eau Claire, but individually, the public does not typically like or appreciate you, often because you are giving them a parking ticket.

Lots of busy work that was annoying at times

Management is always interested in employees sharing ideas and concerns. Employees work at a reasonable pace which helps to avoid injuries and improves the moral and quality of work. Turnover is low and wages and benefits are where an employee can make a living.

My job is seasonal, but I get unemployment, which works out fine. It is outdoor work in any kind of weather. The only cons I've got

The city government allows for many opportunity to do things you are interested in doing. The fringe benefits are excellent.

With such an emphasis on special events in our community, the burdens on personnel resources could be spread out a bit better amongst the city departments.
