I have been working at City of Edmonton full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great salary for experience expectations

    Cons

Completely toxic culture. Staff are miserable, management acts with no thought to impacts on employees. I've seen multiple people crying in the office. We're in the middle of a reorganization where every communicated deadline has been missed by multiple months with no explanations or adjustments.

    Advice to Management

    Start fresh

    Pros

You really feel like you are serving the community and that there are some great people working for the City trying to accomplish the same goals.

    Cons

The City of Edmonton has no mercy for those individuals that blow the whistle on poor management, incompetence poor moral and ethical behaviour. Even if you are right the lawyers eat you for lunch and there is no exit interview. Don't expect to be treated fairly if you blow the whistle.

    Advice to Management

Review the Whistle Blower policy and take your auditors out of the mix. Do proper exit interviews even if you have to use a third party to do them. I know you want to do a good job but to do it you need to walk the walk and take good advice.

I have been working at City of Edmonton full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's really good place if you know someone in the city government, first-class crowd control, I mean, all meetings are tightly monitored, even election debate, scandals are nicely covered, I believe the 'public servants' are spending more time on social media for favourite ratings, including here

    Cons

You have a great chance to become a zombie like anyone else. Our young mayor is a joke. The more educated you are, the more depressed you will be. With time, you will be detached from reality and get lost.

    Advice to Management

Make time to meet homeless people. Systemic corruption has no cure
