I worked at City of Fort Collins part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working for the city recreation department was perfect for everything I was looking for. Flexible hours, friendly staff, and approachable supervisors, I thoroughly enjoyed working here for 6 years!

    Cons

Very few cons to working here. Aside from the typical drama that come with working with high schoolers, I would recommend working here to anyone.

    Advice to Management

Keep on doing what you're doing!

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Great wellness staff and program
    Wonderful people to work with

    Cons

Lack of career path as dept managers often stick with the employee they know, not offering others opportunity. If you're part of their inner circle, you're often given opportunities. If you find opportunities, they may give you a chance, but often the best opportunities go to the inner circle.
No strategy or definitive philosophy regarding services

    Advice to Management

Believe your employees can actually do great things
Be open to new ways of doing something--even if your inner circle employee(s) may get ruffled feathers
Support your managers and trust them
If you want feedback, stop punishing employees who give it

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at City of Fort Collins full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Besides a paycheck I can't really think of positives.

    Cons

Many departments don't get insurance for a year. The insurance cost to much in my opinion. MId management is usually hired from with so many have no idea what they are doing. Favoritism is across the board here. They call themselves world class employer but I disagree. Currently I would take $5 less per hour just to get out of this job. I hate it.

    Advice to Management

    Retire

I worked at City of Fort Collins part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hard place to work. Very very very lazy mangement Part time employees are urged to not work too hard at anything

    Cons

City of Fort Collins is always looking to spend more and more money to increase annual budget. Sad example of how our local gov does business

    Advice to Management

Start to think of the city as a business versus a leach pulling money at all times. Motivate employees to be mindful of budget

I have been working at City of Fort Collins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exceptional people across all departments; great benefits; exceptional wellness program; job flexibility

    Cons

Some leadership can be disconnected from other levels in the organization; salary could be better--are in the market with other public sector, but not in market with the industry. Some departments should promote more opportunities for women in leadership--especially core internal service areas such as finance, IT, purchasing, operations

    Advice to Management

Upper management between managers and Executive leadership - pay more attention to the culture, stop trying to control it by limiting information and growth opportunities.
