I worked at City of Hope full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

City of Hope has a great mission and they strive to make it a great place to work. Working for such a wonderful establishment and cause is very fulfilling. Most people are caring and great to work with.

    Cons

Difficult to promote. Salaries are great if you are favored by leadership; if not, pay can be meager with an overwhelming workload and high expectations of you. The standard 2% annual merit increase is demotivating to stand out and exceed expectations. Leaders stick with leadership and don't typically advocate for their employees. They work hard to achieve their own annual incentive goals that there's no time... and attention left for development of their employees.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach by listening to your employees. I don't believe that most employees feel that their "opinions matter."

I have been working at City of Hope

    Pros

Great place to enchance your skill in stem cell if your starting off in the field but it comes at a price!

    Cons

No work life balance, they require you to work 6 to 7 days without overtime pay or any compensation for your extra hours. Underpaid for all the hours and hard work you dedicate to your job. Typical office politics and drama. I would use this place as steping stone for skill enchantment not an ideal place to retire from. It's hard to get promoted here!

    Advice to Management

Square away your quality assurance team! What a joke! Please retire it shows that you can care less about work.

I have been working at City of Hope

    Pros

It's a great place with a great mission. Everyone I've worked with is very friendly, helpful, and kind. Good work environment, and good emphasis on safety.

    Cons

The pay could be higher. But I can't really complain since it's an entry-level position. And that's expected in an academic area as opposed to biotechnology.

    Advice to Management

Don't fire people who have been working for you for years; manage money better; give more vacation time and more opportunities to travel to conferences.
