    Cons

some city directors were never at work or rarely engaged other employees

Get rid of some of the worthless department directors (political appointees) and find some better people.

I have been working at City of Indianapolis full-time

    Pros

Casual environment, co-workers are very friendly, lots of opportunity for advancement if that's what you want

    Cons

Extremely boring, the department is underfunded and inefficient, dealing with the public is irritating because they're so ignorant but it's not always their fault because the information they need isn't always out there

    Advice to Management

Organize and update resources so that information is more readily available to the public. Everyone I know who answers phones in this job basically operates as a switchboard because people have no idea what number they should be calling or how to do anything. Clarify processes and be more transparent about how things in government work. Aside from that, I think people are doing their best and Mayor Hogsett is surprisingly earnest and cool (for a politician).

    Pros

    - Fun job
    - Great way to give back to the children in the community
    - Well educated and friendly staff (they were like family to me)

    Cons

    - Pay isn't great; however, there is a lot of work involved
    - Constant trainings for a seasonal job (9 month job)

    Advice to Management

At the time of employment, I was a college student looking for a part-time job. It was challenging enough to do all of my assignments on top of having to do weekly lesson plans like I was a teacher. Also, many of the activities in the program were things that required some research and time to try the activities out before presenting them to the kids.

As a full time student, I just didn't have the time to fully commit to preparing for such activities, and I often felt like I was letting the kids and staff down. This should be brought up in the interview and training processes so that potential employees know what they're getting into. It also wouldn't hurt to pay a little more for the amount of work that is required!

    Pros

Will learn a lot of information you won't find in a normal internship.

    Cons

Can be very unstructured and unorganized. A lot of wasted time.

    Advice to Management

A little more structure and organization for interns would be helpful.
