I worked at City of Kitchener as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The team I worked closely with were very motivated and successful. They always met deadlines, and the lines of communication were always open.

    Cons

The same cannot be said for the whole corporation. There are a lot of "old timers" there who are reluctant to see changes and advancements in the workplace. They would fight against the changes we were trying to implement.

    Pros

    Good salary, benefits and pension.
    Not micromanaged.

    Cons

    Can be cliqueish.
It's almost impossible to get fired, so the same people work there for years, if not decades. It means fresh ideas and innovation can be stifled by people who like doing things the same way they've always been done.
    Management lacked direction.
Was bullied by management and complaint's were disregarded.

    Advice to Management

Incentivise people to work harder and find new ways to bring fresh, innovative ideas (and blood) into the organisation.

I have been working at City of Kitchener full-time

    Pros

Easy work load, hardest part is being bored. Don't work hard at all and alot of time your playing with your thumbs. Don't need to have a brain

    Cons

Bored as a lamp post. Alot of the employees are lazy and since there is not much work there is a lot of unnecessary problems. It is like a high school girls locker room

    Advice to Management

unionize and privatize labour jobs to make employees more efficient.

    Pros

As a building attendant, you are required to work independently. It is important that you manage your time wisely to ensure that all necessary jobs are completed before your shift is over. This is a great position for a student because of the the flexible job hours.

    Cons

As mentioned previously, you work independently and sometimes there is absolutely no supervision. In the past, I have seen employees not performing their tasks which leads to negative reviews by patrons of the building.

    Advice to Management

Building Attendant positions should be more monitored especially for positions that are not held in the City of Kitchener building.

There really aren't many. Sometimes you will be called into work even when other city buildings are closed.

I have been working at City of Kitchener part-time

    Pros

Lots a of great people, everyone is supper friendly, easy communication streams to other departments

    Cons

Very difficult to influence senior management to change procedures. Wasted money on "luxury" items instead of putting it money back into building infrastructure
