I worked at City of Long Beach full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Worked with a great team. Everyone had a strong sense of community and a genuine desire to do a good job. There are tons of opportunities to meet lots of great people. The job, while often challenging, was also very rewarding.

    Cons

Often worked long hours in the evening and worked many weekends... there were many times that the paycheck wasn't nearly enough to cover the hours you truly worked. But that's how it goes when you are a salary employee.

    Advice to Management

Fluid communication between management and team members is critical to running an efficient department... this is lacking on so many levels.

    Pros

Working with the community. Getting to meet people from different walks of life. I really enjoyed my co-workers and the clients.

    Cons

Working for the Housing Authority was the most unorganized and unprofessional company that I ever worked for. Management seem to have no clue on how to talk to their employees with respect. They talk about the client like there beneath them and doesn't fight for them to stay housed. I believe they are the cause of alot of people being homeless.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employee with respect. Show them that you appreciate all the hard work they do. They do all the hard work..they work with Veterans, mentally ill clients, homeless clients, HIV clients, elderly and I lot of struggling families.
