I have been working at City of Louisville (Kentucky) full-time

    Pros

It's awsome , you guys have the ohio river, hills , flowers up the azz, beautiful vegetation. Pine trees. I thought minessota was nice, but kentucky is better the closer you get to the southeast. I was there last week, driving buy, there was an awful smell in the air from Indianapolis to Louisville, worried a bit because it was penetrated in my clothes & vehicle, that strange smell spolied my trip down to ky. Hope it's not the nuclear reactor plant going towards Owensboro ky. Don't rely upon the main street media, they cover up , they don't tell it like it is. Make an investigation with out the government because that is not normal . It can be a health threat. Do it for your kids, maby some kind of internet network with the people's voice & comments.

    Cons

Besides that strange smell, it's the bomb.

I have been working at City of Louisville (Kentucky) full-time

    Pros

Good people working here, you'll feel like a human rather than a cog in a machine.

    Cons

You'd be best served by making friends with someone in the "in group" - promotions etc. are generally for those who have buddies at the top

    Advice to Management

Defer to Human Resources more often, this will instill more trust in your employees

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at City of Louisville (Kentucky) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of 911 experience that's about it. Alot of forced overtime

    Cons

Poor working conditions. Poor management. Bad attitudes from command staff. Bad attitudes from co workers. As a street operations employee you are always wrong in everything you do. This place is a sinking ship.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to make rules that make no sense just to justify your job.

    Pros

You get to work with a great team of front line animal care people.

    Cons

Management has a "coasting" mentality and if you try to suggest something they retaliate against you.

    Advice to Management

    Get another job

    Pros

Great place to work! The people are great and management really cares about your career path whether it's with them or not, they will help you obtain your goals.

    Cons

Strict time policies. Work week is limited and working at home or checking email after hours counts against your 40 hours.

    Advice to Management

Salaried employees should be able to work on an as needed basis, if emails need to be answered after hours it shouldn't be frowned upon.

    Pros

Insurance, paid vacations, 457b retirement plan, education reimbursement program. This is a union job with steady contract negotiated raises and longevity bonuses.

    Cons

You will work weekends and holidays. It is a fast paced, high stress job and you will be dealing with John Q. Public on his or her worst day ever.

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

Helping people who really didn't know how things worked or where to get help.

    Cons

Dirty work environment, anger, unmotivated coworkers, bosses who didn't know anything about the topic they were supervising people in, decades behind private business in computer software and hardware, union rules protecting lazy people, etc.

    Advice to Management

There is none because the problems are mostly beyond what they are allowed to do and if they say something to often or too loudly they get veiled threats from their superiors.
