I have been working at City of Louisville (Kentucky) full-time

    Pros

Good people working here, you'll feel like a human rather than a cog in a machine.

    Cons

You'd be best served by making friends with someone in the "in group" - promotions etc. are generally for those who have buddies at the top

    Advice to Management

Defer to Human Resources more often, this will instill more trust in your employees

I worked at City of Louisville (Kentucky) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of 911 experience that's about it. Alot of forced overtime

    Cons

Poor working conditions. Poor management. Bad attitudes from command staff. Bad attitudes from co workers. As a street operations employee you are always wrong in everything you do. This place is a sinking ship.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to make rules that make no sense just to justify your job.

    Pros

You get to work with a great team of front line animal care people.

    Cons

Management has a "coasting" mentality and if you try to suggest something they retaliate against you.

    Advice to Management

    Get another job

    Pros

Great place to work! The people are great and management really cares about your career path whether it's with them or not, they will help you obtain your goals.

    Cons

Strict time policies. Work week is limited and working at home or checking email after hours counts against your 40 hours.

    Advice to Management

Salaried employees should be able to work on an as needed basis, if emails need to be answered after hours it shouldn't be frowned upon.

    Pros

Helping people who really didn't know how things worked or where to get help.

    Cons

Dirty work environment, anger, unmotivated coworkers, bosses who didn't know anything about the topic they were supervising people in, decades behind private business in computer software and hardware, union rules protecting lazy people, etc.

    Advice to Management

There is none because the problems are mostly beyond what they are allowed to do and if they say something to often or too loudly they get veiled threats from their superiors.

I have been working at City of Louisville (Kentucky) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

8-5, Holidays off, No weekends, Dr. Nesbitt, Salaries are Public information

    Cons

Salary- you almost qualify for SNAP and WIC due to poor salaries if you are a new employee. Long term staff make high salaries and brag and bully new staff. Terrible fiilthy conditions, carpet smells, Jobs continued to be threated due to previous administration handling of salaries . Impossible to fire an incompetent staff member due to union. Union always wins. Supervisors are expected to take on more work while deputy directors cut staff. The only intrest for leadership is data collection and Healthy 2020.

    Advice to Management

Clean up the building, replace the stained fiflthy, moldy carpet. Support supervisors, listen to their suggestions. Have a collaberative menagement team not a dictator leadership who does not understand the processes at the clinics. Close programs that you have no intention on keeping long term such as WIC, immunizations, Family Planning, STD.

Nothing happens fast. Always told no money but everyone with the exception of HR gets raises and non-union loses on everything.
