I worked at City of Markham full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun atmosphere, can enjoy leading a game and playing with the kids, nice co-workers

    Cons

Pay is just at minimum wage so $11.25 per hour but good experience nonetheless

    Advice to Management

Maybe try increasing the wage to $12 to $13 as things are so expensive now in 2017 even compared to just last year. There's discussion of minimum wage increasing to $15 per hour so can take this into account.

    Pros

Great position for summer students looking for a relatively low demand summer job. You will work with a small group of students to maintain a portion of the town. By mid-July the grass stops growing and crews can take it easy

    Cons

Being in the public eye, even when you have completed all of your daily task you must attempt to busy.

    Advice to Management

Management seems to be doing a good job, the parks are roads are in good condition and the City is generally a pleasant place to work.

I have been working at City of Markham part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The coworkers I've met are pretty amazing. I've made some best friends working here. Rotations are good and fair, we get to swim for free and get discount bus pass

    Cons

there isn't really any other then that we get paid less then lifeguards in other cities such as Vaughan or Toronto

I worked at City of Markham (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good training though repetitive - it does stick though.
Flexible hours - you pick your own and it's good for students.

    Cons

Management always plays favouritism - you will be written up or warned for several things that another person does and they won't even bat an eye.
Supervisors mostly power-trip and don't do their job. They don't guard and sit at the front eating half the time; especially if you're 16-17, you're left to do everything.
The pay is so bad, considering how many courses you need to do to have the position.
Always understaffed so they don't staff shifts accordingly. They literally just hope for the best and hope some person will take the shift last minute - if not, the splash guard/assistant or even shift supervisor needs to go in and teach. Stupid.

    Advice to Management

    STOP PLAYING FAVOURITES.
