I worked at City of New York full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working for The City is a privilege and an honor. One has the opportunity to contribute to improving the lives of all New Yorkers.

In addition, depending on the agency and its culture, management really works with people to help them become the best employee one can be.

    Cons

One does not always get to determine who one will be responsible for supervising. It is not going uncommon to get a reject ( read: "problem child") from another division.
