    Pros

Good professional experience. If you are looking for public sector, it is a good place to start. Get your foot in the door.

    Cons

As an intern, you gain good experience but City government are downsizing to save money because of the pension system.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I worked at City of Newport Beach California full-time

    Pros

-Nice new offices and most people there are easy to work with.
-A great place to get your foot in the door and gain experience, if you can.
    -9/80 work schedule

    Cons

    -one year probationary period
-management will not have your back, but instead will stab you in it to save themselves
-high turnover in some departments due to poor management
-management paid very high amounts while their employees do all the work (my former manager used to sit at her computer and make photo albums for her kids while the rest of our department did her job. she's still there by the way.)
    -micro managing
    -difficult to move up

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees, trust them to do their jobs, and give reviews in a timely manner.

I worked at City of Newport Beach California (More than a year)

    Pros

Great city to work for. Everybody there is very friendly. Would definitely work there again if I lived down there.

    Cons

It can be hard work because you are working with kids and running around and playing with them, but at the same time, it's going to be the most fun you've had at a job. You get paid to play at the beach.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Everybody has a positive attitude and it makes it a great place to work for.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at City of Newport Beach California part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You get to work at the beach....Doesn't get much better than that. In addition, you are surrounded by a truly excellent staff. 99% of the people who work as seasonal lifeguard are enthusiastic, driven, and all around interesting. Nothing is more rewarding than performing your job at the highest level on a big surf, crowded, summer day.

    Cons

It is extremely difficult to become a full-time lifeguard in Newport. I believe you have better odds of becoming a professional athlete. The job really only exists during the summer.

    Advice to Management

    Keep the hiring process rigorous.
