I have been working at City of Philadelphia full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are great benefits including dental, medical, vision, education (college), and pension. My department offers good salaries. You now have the option of working virtually if you have an unexpected/challenging situation and can't make it into the office. However, I don't think there are any positions that are completly work-from-home. Most people in my department are friendly and laid back. You get to work with people from other city departments and various constituents/stakeholders. You get to implement programs/initiatives that are important for the city.

    Cons

Pay varies greatly depending on the department. Every department doesn't offer an opportunity to advance. There isn't shared decision-making or much transparency.

"A career at the City of Philadelphia"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at City of Philadelphia full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You're doing a public service and the goal is to make the city run as efficiently as possible for the citizens, no matter what department you are in. Great benefits overall, no matter what department. Pay is decent.

    Cons

This may depend on the department, but much of the staff and coworkers seem apathetic. Offices are nowhere near modern, and perks are a bit hard to come by.
