    Negative Outlook

I worked at City of Raleigh full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Nearly free health insurance
Earn one day vacation per month til 5 year Vested (then you earn bonuses)
Good place for those who are waiting to retire

    Cons

Very Negative Work Environment, Unorganized, Bad Attitudes
    Males try to Intimidate Females
    Sexist comments
    No room for advancement
    Supervisors pick favorites
Some people work extremely hard, while others just sit around (unbalanced work loads)
Majority of people complain about having to just do their job
Pay is very low compared to private sector

    Advice to Management

Employees hate 12 hour shifts. Go to three 8 hours shifts, and hire based off of 1st, 2nd, & 3rd shift. People cannot handle the rotations and it only makes their moods and outlook on life worse, then they take it out on co-workers.
Other people get way too comfy and slack on their work and just push it onto others. Upper management needs to revamp. The turn over rate is ridiculous.

I had to leave because the negative environment.

I worked at City of Raleigh part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone there was very nice, many of the employees were not very well educated but all were polite and welcoming.

    Cons

Very boring and unrewarding job. All tasks are mindless and very repetitive, pay was pretty low to start (but above minimum wage), and no one really cared much about their work, we were all just there for a paycheck.

    Advice to Management

There's nothing they could really improve, it's just a boring job that someone has to do. The management is very nice and is also doing their best to keep it as interesting as possible.

    Pros

Health Insurance, Wellness Programs, Benefits. The city as a whole seems to care about the lives of it's employees.

    Cons

My department suffered from a heavy handed singl-minded director. Changes were handed down without even taking comment from the employees in the department and explanations for the changes were rarely given. Salaries were about 40% lower than average for the area.

    Pros

Working for the City of Raleigh has been great. I am new and I have been welcomed and made part of the family. The work culture is great. They encourage performance but they don't micro manage. The benefits are tremendous, healthcare, vacation, sick, holidays and a pension!

    Cons

Accountability and expectation are high. You get the training and tools to do your job. It's like one big team.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Continue to engage and encourage employees. Give feedback and mentoring.
