I worked at City of Rowlett full-time

    Pros

Understanding leadership and willingness to promote based on value to the community and organizational impact.
Small, close knit staff that is proactively working to break down silos between departments.
Leadership that values every voice regardless of your position within the organization.
Progressive work to diversity lifestyle options within the City for a range of income levels and age groups.

    Cons

Leadership is proactive in promoting employees based on impact, which is progressive for a municipality, given that it is difficult to move up within the department due to a small planning staff.

    Pros

Salary is very good for area

    Cons

I was only there 2 mths after it was revealed to me that if i did not participate in the wellness program i would have to pay an additional 17% penalty which was going to be roughly 1300 more a year for the health insurance. This information was not given to me until after accepting the position

    Advice to Management

Make all benefits known upfront yes we have health insurance but if you opt out there will be an additional charge.

I have been working at City of Rowlett full-time

    Pros

Rowlett is very relaxed when it comes to dress codes, hair color, tattoos, piercings, etc. Very strong wellness program and good camaraderie. Pay is on the higher end for my department compared to other cities. Management allows professional growth and skill enhancing opportunities through conferences and opportunities through work such as training programs.

    Cons

Very hard to move up because the City is just now getting to a point where having enough positions to advance is a reality. Reclassification is hard and takes time and bonuses don't occur. No overtime/comp time for salaried employees even when required to attend many night meetings.

I worked at City of Rowlett full-time

    Pros

Was convenient to get to, rank/file workers were all fine to work with. Benefits and pay were mediocre..

    Cons

City Manager down has, and probably always will be good old boys club.. basically if you want to get a promotion, get ready to brown nose, get ready to stab your other colleagues in the back..

    Advice to Management

Clean house, and step down. Let someone else lead, get rid of brown nosing mentality.
