I have been working at City of Sunnyvale full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

co-workers are generally very friendly and helpful, kids are energetic and easily engaged in the activities we set up for them

    Cons

the supervisors are very strict about adhering to policies and procedures, not everyone gets the opportunity to work a full 40 hours a week

    Advice to Management

I think that for the most part the management is doing a pretty good job since they have several dozen counselors to manage; however, I would like to say that some of the camps should have longer hours so that more counselors can work a full 40 hours every week

I have been working at City of Sunnyvale full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Rich benefits and compensation package for current/retiree managers/council, new management slightly lesser. Non-management employees receive a modest (better than other CalPERS' agencies) benefits package.

    Cons

Toxic work environment. Unprofessional upper level staff, most especially City Manager's Office, Council, Human Resources, Finance, and IT Departments. Agency definitely DOES NOT support the employees of the City whom many are also citizens of and proud to serve the community they work for. Certainly NOT the Heart of Silicon Valley nor the Happiest Place to Live/Work.

    Advice to Management

Foster a good work environment and offer ways for employees to be successful, as well as opportunities to advance within the organization, including providing ability for employees to qualify for promotion by combining experience in the industry they are seeking to promote within to meet minimum qualifications for such a position as other public agencies provide. Also, value employees of the agency and listen to them. Stop trying to find fault in them and nurture their strengths and appreciate the contributions they have made to the City. Promote success and stop destroying the lives of your employees while management does nothing.

I have been working at City of Sunnyvale as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

I like that they are flexible with my schedule. My co-workers are super friendly. Stress level is low (especially compared to corporate). Pace is relaxed.

    Cons

Many are contractors, thus no benefits. A bit of a commute for me, but nothing earth-shattering. Decent work offices.
