I have been working at City of Toledo full-time

    Pros

Fringe Benefits outweigh meager salary increases

    Cons

Meager Salary Increases, Politically motivated decisions vs. sound Engineering practices

    Advice to Management

Go back to City Manager form of Governing to have professionals running divisions instead of "appointees"

I have been working at City of Toledo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The job is not hard. There's a lot of relaxing time. Most coworkers are nice and it has great benefits.

    Cons

Some people are only looking out for themselves and will trick you if they want to get out of a pinch. The pay is subpar to other cities near. It's also a dead end job.

    Advice to Management

Consider taking feedback from your employees.

I have been working at City of Toledo (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Insurance cost good, lots of ot, because no one wants to work with management, and that's the only way to make a good paycheck. Union job, but management can manipulate things to make the union representation worthless.

    Cons

Civilian supervisors think they are perfect and manipulate things to get people removed from the department that they don't like. Very "clicky" department....I'd you don't enjoy the gossip b.s. I wouldn't apply here! Pay is pathetic for what you have to endure!

    Advice to Management

Remove civilian supervisors! They serve NO purpose, and can't DO the job they are supposed to be supervising.

    Pros

You receive at least 13 paid holidays off, employer matching OPERS, full medical, dental, vision benefits. You accumulate sick time every 30 days, if you use less than 5 sick days a year you will get paid a bonus in January but you can carryover what's not used.

    Cons

Management is very unorganized and very quick to blame subordinates under their management. They will write you up for bogus reasons and they will try to stack a lot of charges against you in order to make something stick. DOES NOT FOLLOW LOCAL 7 UNION RULES AT ALL.

    Advice to Management

    HIRE ALL NEW

I have been working at City of Toledo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of the positions are union jobs. You don't need to worry about being laid off.
Get days off on National Holidays. Flexible sick/ vacation times.
    Slow pace working environment.
Good benefit package including life insurance, dental, vision, and 401K.

    Cons

Budget got cut almost every year. City won't hire/replace anyone once they leave/retire due to budget issue.
Hard to change on almost everything in the City due to the politics.
    Extremely slow efficiency.
No professional training program on SAP software and training opportunity of getting licensed.
The salary is below the industry average.

    Advice to Management

I won't recommend coming to the City if you seek incentive and wish to make a change/ improve the work process because most of the people don't care what they do and how they do.

    Pros

Good people, decent wadges, pretty secure job

    Cons

Some issues with the management and the union interaction. Plus the city admins need to get things figured out

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Desperately needs talented employees & is willing to reward those whom work hard.
Have the opportunity to do good for the locality.
Management under Mayor Bell is very willing to listen to ideas.

    Cons

The city has no money...thus pulling the trigger on projects can be difficult.
HR process is tiresome/exhausting and very long. The most qualified applicants almost always end up hired elsewhere.
    Disorganization is rampant.

    Advice to Management

Accounting, Human Resources, and IT should all be outsourced. Toledo should strive to implement new ideas shortly after they have been proven in wealthier cities. This would give the city second movers advantage.
