I have been working at City of Vancouver, Canada full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Vacation and benefits, location, pat is pretty good.

    Cons

Old school processes that no one looks at or improves efficiency. People are doing what they've done for years - workflow, systems not been updated. Work place culture is outdated - work from home not allowed, strict with breaks, lunches, appointments etc. Not very much flexibility for hours and life/work balance.

    Advice to Management

Have more faith in employees- we're closer to the ground than you are and know a lot about what is going on at that level which could help with the bigger picture. Treat employees like adults and have trust in us. Look at inefficiencies to save employees time. Care about what our workloads are and understand what we actually do.

I have been working at City of Vancouver, Canada full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people you meet there that come can be nice.

    Cons

no support, allow bullying to continue in the workplace even when reported. When you report - it puts a black mark on you.
No one really cares about you- the management are just putting in their time and don't care to hear your ideas or help support or implement them.I have often heard their conversations about other staff members they don't like. It's extremely abusive.

    Advice to Management

caring about your staff goes a long way
