I have been working at City of Vaughan (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great staff, lots of interesting work, pay/benefits are rewarding, long term career can be easily obtained.

    Cons

None that I can think of during my employment period. Like all government organization paperwork is still abundant and the virtual document will take some time but heading there each day.

    Advice to Management

Communication and Information about the direction of the Corporation

    Pros

Working in aquatics allowed me to engage with the community, and work on skills that have helped me to this day. The full time staff do their best to accommodate part time staff

    Cons

sometimes had to deal with difficult patrons, made the day much more difficult.

I worked at City of Vaughan part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

City of Vaughan has amazing staff, great place to start working and has a friendly work environment. The job itself is great, the programs offered to children and adults are designed to maximize their learning.

    Cons

Sometimes the chlorinated water can become irritating if working in the water for long hours. Also , the pay is lower than that of neighboring cities like Toronto.

    Advice to Management

Advice is to carefully hire supervisors, since I personally had some complaints about some I have had. Also, having more interaction with the working staff would be a plus.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

I have been an employee for over 20 years.

    Cons

Management is the problem. All levels of them. Council keeps hiring those that will push horrible development proposals that will only line their pockets. The regionsl coucillors are the worst. As staff we are afraid to voice our opinions for fear of shuned or bullied. It is a serious problem.

    Advice to Management

Be fair. Treat everyone with respect..no matter whst job they do. Most if all listen to your staff. They do the work and can help the city become a great place to work and do business in. Dont just help the developers to benefit yourselves..the city is becoming a mess of condo developments. Certain areas are becoming ghetto.
