I worked at City of Waukesha part-time

    Pros

Past manager was amazing, but the before and afterschool program has quickly gone downhill

    Cons

Please reconsider employment as a before/afterschool instructor or summer staff here. You will work with a disorganized team where staff who are brand new, who have followed this new manager to this particular business, are put in coordinator positions over those who have worked there for years. Management is not supportive, will ignore phone calls and emails for weeks without response, and goes out and drinks with a select group of employees, who are of course the only staff put in coordinator positions. I quit and will not be returning. Can't stand not being recognized for my work and having others, who are not qualified, take leadership positions.

    Advice to Management

I am at a loss for words. You need to ensure that you treat employees fairly and equally, and the drinking with select groups of staff needs to stop. You will lose all of your returning employees.

I worked at City of Waukesha full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good but the pay can be lower than the industry average. Pretty much a standard work day 8 am -4:30 pm.

    Cons

No room for growth. There is no training to improve skill sets and communication as a whole in the organization is not good at all

    Advice to Management

Communicate out better to employees, review your supervisors, they need it

I worked at City of Waukesha part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great part time job when in school, part-time job or a second job. Great team mentality and plenty of training offered to make you the most successful at the position. You work with great people in a great community and pay is most definitely competitive for a part time position.

    Cons

This position is a part time position and you will need to supplement this job with another one. There will be days where the work is difficult but it is always rewarding.

I have been working at City of Waukesha full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great training. Decent pay. Average equipment.

    Cons

The usual political work environment. The work schedule of 5 on, 2 off, 4 on , 2 off is not that great while working 8 hous per shift.

    Advice to Management

Stop the power games. You get more out of your employee's when they enjoy working for you. Don't create an environment where employee's are nervous to make decisions because employee's feel like they will be continually questioned and investigated for common decisions.

    Pros

The City is a family environment led generally by professionals. Employees here are well trained, independent thinkers. There is significant community pride which helps with job satisfaction as well. The City is diversely populated and growing, also leading to pride in the workplace.

    Cons

Government is difficult due to outside political influences. There is constant concern about job security due to budget cuts particularly in today's economic times. Thick skinned employees are the most apt to succeed. Additionally there is a public stigma against government employees.

    Advice to Management

Continue to embrace change and don't be afraid to buck the old guard. New ideas are well received by the Council.
