I worked at City of Wilmington full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you're looking to work in government, it looks good to have "City of..." on it.

    Cons

The people that work there have for the past 20+ years and are very ridged in their views. HR is a joke. I've experienced and witnessed them to speak to employees and the general public very unprofessionally. And of course, because they've been there so long, nothing is done about it. You HAVE to live within the city limits to work there.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the entire parks and rec department and start fresh with people with strong leadership skills. Maybe consider giving some personality assessments.

I have been working at City of Wilmington full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, decent salary, great vacation and sick time package.

    Cons

Very political, hard to advance in certain departments and if you are appointed personal it's hard to get a raise.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring young kids to replace institutional knowledge! This is a political job and if you hire someone who has little knowledge of how local government works not only for your constituent base, but the business community and politics in general things will not run smooth.

Lazy workers, cut throat workers mainly the ones that don't like to work and have a lot of time on their hands. Current Mayor is wacky.
