I worked at City of Yonkers as an intern

    Pros

Since it was an unpaid internship, they were extremely flexible in hours. I was able to take summer courses and work in the office whenever worked for me.

    Cons

As the summer is usually busy at the office, I wasn't able to see all that I wanted to.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at City of Yonkers full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A Government job is a terrific way to serve the public and yourself at the same time, it provides for your safety net retirement, it can be exciting with the changing of the guards and politics

    Cons

    BUT
beware You can be victim to politics as usual, personally, I loved serving the public, loved, it, but i hated the politics so much more, i walked away, would have been retiring soon, had i stayed.

    Advice to Management

When you have a hard worker who is loyal, hold on to that person, you may not get another like them in a very long time, and the clock ticks between 8 and 4 every day

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at City of Yonkers full-time

    Pros

IWhen I worked there, I found the city to have great benefits, dedicated co-workers, competetive salaries. I also had wide latitude to identify and initiate new projects.

    Cons

Overall feeling of distrust by the newly elected officials towards long time senior managers. This has created a very uncomfortable environment for many rank & file.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on the tasks at hand rather than what was done by the previous administration.
