I have been working at Civco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've found the organization is open to trying new things and most managers are open to different opinions. A lot to do with a somewhat lean workforce, but this allows you to try different things and learn a lot. Quite a few examples of people advancing in the organization and most managers work to develop their people.

    Cons

Systems need to catch up to the growth in the company but there's a lot of work being done to get there.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on developing talent throughout the organization. This is your competitive advantage. Make time for it by making good on the promise to identify only the priorities that are most important.

I worked at Civco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Roper Technologies stock performance is the saving grace thanks to Roper's business sector diversification.

    Cons

Limited personal and monetary growth potential for 90% of CIVCO employees . Not a challenging work environment. Stagnant. Stale. Top Executives are richly rewarded; however, they are complacent and too comfortable in their roles. Executive pay does not represent actual contributions.

    Advice to Management

    Earn your keep.

I worked at Civco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It was a paycheck. Nothing more, nothing less. If you're the type that requires occasional pandering, once a year they would rent a slushy machine for a day or two.

    Cons

Incompetent isn't a strong enough word to use when describing this company's "leadership". From supervisors that would regularly divulge private information within their department regarding other staff, manager who was allowed to hire individuals whom which they had long standing friendships with, to shift supervisors who spent the majority of time in their office on the opposite end of the building from production. The environment itself was like reliving high school while stuck in an episode of Duck Dynasty: gossip and socializing came before work, and the operation was rampant with 'cliques' that specialized in everything from defamation, project tampering, defacing of personal property, all the way to flat out lying to cover for the circle they pieced together. Favoritism was blatant to the degree of manager/supervisor teams being guilty to dereliction of responsibility, intentionally mishandling incident reports in an effort to create damage control before Human Resources could be alerted. I wasted over ten years with this company, the final two before quitting I advised acquaintances to not get involved with them. Avoid this place!

    Advice to Management

"Expectations" exist on BOTH sides of the table. A title doesn't earn you respect - actions, ability, and integrity do. Talking down at people as though they're children only exposes how unfit you are to lead, and illustrates you're merely on a power trip.

I worked at Civco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Average pay and benefits. Could be a fabulous company to work for if it had an engaged senior management team at the helm.

    Cons

Great divide between management and hourly workers. A striking example of the 'haves' and the 'have nots'. Efforts to engage the hourly workers are bogus and superficial. Work is not challenging and workers are not developed except for a few hand picked individuals.

    Advice to Management

Management needs a wake up call to get real. The senior management team needs to be changed out and an infusion of new energy and ideas needs to occur for the company to grow.

I worked at Civco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits - PTO, Vision, dental, healthcare
    Clean working environment

    Cons

    * Not much room to advance - you'll have to hope someone dies first!
    * Training of new employees began to slack due to high turnover so protocols were not being followed all the time
    * One day you're told one thing, the next another
    * Gossipy environment
    * Manufacturing rate goals increased as people got better, went from 500 to 1000 per hour.
*Mandatory overtime occasionally -first three months I was there in fact.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees who have been there, making and packaging your product. The engineers may design it, but they don't know what it's like to produce it on a daily basis. Quality is more important than quantity when you're creating a medical product.

I have been working at Civco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Growth market, strong support from Roper Industries while CIVCO creates and executes the sales and operations plans. Breaking down barriers between functions and building skills to work effectively cross-functionally. Technical functions have challenging projects and initiatives for all levels of experience, with opportunities to learn from experienced personnel while bringing new ideas to the workplace.

    Cons

No organization is perfect. Still trying balance risk management and control with innovation and speed. This means there are some silo'd functions, there is some bureaucracy, but the culture is evolving and recognizing the opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Be leaders, grow leaders, grow people and they will accomplish more than you imagine.

I worked at Civco full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Strong young engineering core
    Meaningful company mission
    Good customer focus
Hawkeye fans will feel at home
Performance demands are low (if that's important to you)

    Cons

    Lack of Diversity
Parochial and passive aggressive leadership (fail candor test)
Lack of holding lower performers accountable makes great performers feel less valued
Limited Development / Mentoring (lack of leaders who can coach)

    Advice to Management

Give your great performers real visibility and opportunity versus protecting yourself. Don't reward negative integrity and lack of candor. Recommit yourself to your company values; and make the tough calls necessary in fulfillment of those values

I worked at Civco full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There isn't a lot of good things to say. You get benefits.

    Cons

So much favortism. The supervisors put off their work onto others. They are trying to train people to work in other areas and it's causing nothing but problems. Major communication gaps. The people that do the actual work do not get recognized for it. Do not recommend working here!!

    Advice to Management

Look at what the people are actually doing, acknowledge it, and do something about it. Hire supervisors that actually work.

    Pros

There are no pros to this organization

    Cons

All of senior management is incompetent, the CEO in particular is a joke.

    Advice to Management

Keep pulling the wool over Roper's eyes. If they ever figure out just how clueless you are you'll be out of a job.
