    Pros

Great place to start learning about the retail business

    Cons

    - Management does not train nor encourage growth. You practically have to beg for it.
    - Catty. Gossipy. It's a really a place to learn the ugly side of corporate politics.

    Advice to Management

LEARN HOW TO TREAT YOUR EMPLOYEES FAIRLY AND JUSTLY. STOP PLAYING FAVORITES AND QUIT THE GOSSIPING. We are no longer in high school so stop acting like your target customers.

I worked at Claire's Stores part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It was a great high school job. Taught me a lot about customer service and working with people. I never had to pierce anyone's ears so I didn't have to go through the stress of dealing with that. My supervisors was always nice and easy to work with.

    Cons

Always had to be on the lookout for shoplifters, which is also a difficult topic to address. I wish I was given more hours to work, but at the same time I was in high school so working weekends was appropriate.

    Pros

Great energetic staff, supportive management, company competitions, DTI, scheduled breaks, fifty percent employee discount, hands on district manager, fun working environment.

    Cons

Wasn't given the minimum 25 hours a week, pay was low for a management position, too many on the management team, roled amongst employees unclear. Training was horrible and unclear, short, and relatively hands off left employees to fend for themselves many times. Definite nepotism going on.

    Advice to Management

Make being a manager worth it by raising pay. There's no reason I made more as a sales Associate at another job and less as a manager. Especially considering there wasn't much of a difference bw ASM duties and third Key duties. Unfair rotation of shifts, make sure it's happening the right way so the same people aren't working until 11:00 every single night unless that's the only availibility they have.

I have been working at Claire's Stores full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The paycheck shows up every two weeks.

    Cons

Everything that doesn't involve seeing your check show up in the bank. Literally zero accountability for non-performance. There is zero enforcement of an attendance policy. If you have no shame, you can just not show up.

Zero vetting of quality candidates. HR thinks they're still high school cheerleaders so that's what they gravitate too.

Management is inept and under qualified. Claire's like to recycle tired talent as well which goes back to the lack of accountability and talent assessment by HR.

Cases of nepotism have been curbed but not to a standard of decency.

Some departments are so broken they can't even complete basic daily tasks that then inhibit other departments on a regular basis. No one seems to care.

    Advice to Management

Remove yourself from your safe zone and feel free to gauge feedback from people you don't feel comfortable with or aren't Instagram friends with. You might be shocked to learn something new.

    Pros

Fun environment, busy days made time go fast

    Cons

Schedule was ridiculous! No support by outside management, DM played favorites

    Advice to Management

Have management on stores more frequently to actually follow up on issues.

I worked at Claire's Stores full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers were friendly and supportive. Payroll Supervisor/Manager cares about employees and their growth. Good insurance options that include dental and vision.

    Cons

Low pay, long hours, upper management not supportive, toxic culture, unorganized work environment, unclear guidelines, poor work/life balance, use of outdated technology, having to mail paper checks in FedEx envelopes to every store across the USA.

    Advice to Management

Create a more formal, cohesive training program instead of throwing new hires into the fire right away just so the work gets done. Upper management lacks people skills. There's a reason this position has high turnover. No one seems to care to investigate why, or they know why, but just don't care to change things...
