I have been working at Claire's Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Claire's is a great Company to start out with at a young age and grow with. As a store manager you are only required to work 40 hours a week and are paid time and a half over 40.

    Cons

Extremely high workload for the minimum amount of payroll given. You have to be able to prioritize and multitask very quickly.

    Advice to Management

Partner with successful stores and constantly recruit. Team work makes the dream work, you can't do it all on your own.

    Pros

Learn about the basics of retail. It's a stepping stone to be able to gain the experience.

    Cons

They dont care about the potential you have to being promoted into assistant managers or at all you can be there for 3+ or 6+ years like my coworker and they will NOT promote you at all. Of the managers don't like you, they will pick at you to get rid of you, even if it means making false write ups. The payroll sometimes says ERROR and you won't get paid your hours. And if they "fixed" it then sometimes, it won't even show on your check. The district manager is extremely unprofessional, so if you mess up once, they try to get rid of you even if it means setting you up. If your report to human resources, they say they will.investigate it but really nothing is done. You can run the whole store, know your numbers, your conversion, do the shipment and make the schedules and NOTHING! They won't promote you. They make you do bank runs and stay past 9:30 and won't even pay you for it. They hire you as part time and have you in the system as part time but sometimes give you full time hours just so you won't receive the benefits.

    Advice to Management

Please look at your employees who have been at Claires for 3+ years and consider them for assistant manager or manager. 90% of these employees have the potential to run a store and make yearly sales but their shut down by unprofessional district managers who make it personal. Your losing great employees.

    I worked at Claire's Stores full-time

    Pros

Fun environment. Love piercing ears and creating memories with clientele.

    Cons

Corporate has no idea what goes on daily in stores. Changing promotionso sometimes 3 times a week. Having big customer engagement expectations while also asking you to complete tasks such as markdowns or Plano gram and freight all while single coverage. If sales expectations are not met you are made to feel like a failure. When the company itself is not meeting expectations. Very few hours for training new team. Horrible pay for store manager and lower. Promises made to good employees but no follow through from district and regional managers. Had to work off the clock just to keep store running smoothly because you can't overspend payroll and you can't leave tasks undone. Managers do not receive holiday pay if they work 40 hours. So if you are understaffed or are made to work 40 because of black Friday and Christmas you lose your holiday pay. Management is expected to work EVERY Saturday. If you get one approved off you have to use vacation time. Can never get approval for vacation. Asked is it smart for you to be out of your store for that long when asking for a week to 5 days off. Once you hit stores manager very little room to grow.

    Advice to Management

Work a shift in a store. Not as a second person but how you expect your employees to work it. Not just one day. Put in a 40 hours week and see that your expectations are not realistic. Stores don't need 20 weeks of sell through sitting in the back rooms. Get a good replenishment system in place to make managing back stock easier. Pay your employees more. They work hard for you and what you spend your will make up in turnover cost.

I worked at Claire's Stores (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun environment with typically very wonderful employees. Being around kids and hosting a birthday event is always incredibly joyful and exciting.

    Cons

They have implemented schedules that make it very hard to like your schedule and be able to do much during the day because of a random 4 hour shift in the middle of the day. Management pushes sales incredibly hard and will decrease the number of hours you get each week based on how high each transaction is. They do not take into account any other great thing you do for the company and solely based schedules off of "ADS".

    Advice to Management

Appreciate and recognize the employees who bring in and keep customers coming back because of the personal attention they give to customers.

I worked at Claire's Stores (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-opportunities to move up within the company
    - customers friendly and enjoyable
-store coworkers are friendly and welcoming

    Cons

-higher ups don't realize how hard employees work to make goals
-higher ups expect employees to be get full floor sets done on top of making sales. This can be done if they would allot more payroll but they do not
-work will go unappreciated if sales goals are not made.
-pay is barely above min wage

    Advice to Management

Realize your employees are working as hard as they can and listen to them when they need are asking for assistance. Also tighten up on your policies for hiring and firing. GIVE MORE PAYROLL TO EMPLOYEES FOR TASKS YOU WANT DONE

I have been working at Claire's Stores full-time

    Pros

I enjoy making the little girls happy, and piercing ears. Claire's is a great place to work if you can work individually. Most of the time it is one person in the store! My company needs to look into nose piercings!! EVERYONE asks if we do noses. I would love to pierce noses! Come get all the new and coolest accessories with Claire's!

    Cons

Working alone for long periods of time.
I fill pay is not fitting for the tasks that must be completed.

    Advice to Management

Stop looking over your inside potentials. It is cheaper to train people who already know the basics, and loyal to your company!
