I worked at Clarins (More than a year)

    Pros

Great products, quality skin care, most of the counter staff and counter managers are great people to work with.

    Cons

The level of organization dysfunction and negative culture is astounding. I believe it is a dysfunction from the top down. Management sends mixed messages, condescending communication and openly insulting people in public is a norm. The rules would change weekly and questions are not welcome. The sales approach is very prescribed, everyone is expected to use the memorized script. I was reprimanded for giving customers too much information and not to include any of the scientific information just focus on how it feels on your skin. They seem to assume their customers aren't savvy or educated where I tend to believe the opposite.

    Advice to Management

Passive aggressive communication, insulting anyone ever is a bad management behavior. Badgering and bullying people leave everyone with a bad taste for the company, customers and employees alike. You need some systemic culture changes in higher management. Find peoples strengths and capitalize on them. Emotionally beating people up brings out the worst in people you need to invest in some positive management training from the top down.

I worked at Clarins (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, paid well by macys, free products and lots of training, flexible hours and easy Macy goals.

    Cons

my direct boss would trash talk every employee behind their back and even once sent an email out speaking poorly of an employee without even consulting them. They would manage with fear and intimidation instead of motivating team members. The regional was proud to make employees cry and I tried to talk to the VP and it just seems that as the manager running the business for a specific location, they were not really able to help. needless too say, I wouldn't work for this company again unless they learn to support all the staff, and all become a company that has integrity and isn't letting upper management set a bad example by creating a hotel working enviroment

I have been working at Clarins (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Products are great and deliver results.

    Cons

Unsafe environment , you can loose your job anytime. Don't feel safe with the company at all. Always cutting hours. There's no promotion opportunities within the company neither.

    Advice to Management

There's always talk and questions back and fourth . But things are never taken seriously and never in action. So why waste time to even discuss ? Poor management.

I worked at Clarins full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are satisfactory, TOA's are very easily accessible. The company has junior management, it's very easy to get promoted for people who make friends with the SVP.

    Cons

Terrible work life balance, extremely hostile work environment. If you seek HR's assistance you might as well resign, HR does not act as the middle man. Instead they tell whoever your grievance with about the issue and allow the employee to be targeted. It's very clear whoever the SVP put into place when he was in vp role gets preferential treatment, (I.e. Smaller territories, more resources, and much more support). The companies leadership does not know how to grow the business, the numbers continue to drop, and all they do is continue to cut budgets to show profit. The company has gone from a beautiful brand and a great place to work to a nightmare.

    Advice to Management

Don't do a surgery to ask how the employees feel and make they hand it in to the managers and HR in person. Give them a real voice. If you ever want longevity and people to stay again you must listen to their issues.
