I have been working at Clark Nexsen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you willing, there are opportunities at Clark Nexsen. I started here in 1993 as the first structural engineer that the firm hired, to start the structural department. We had one office and 50 employees. I have since grown with the firm, and am now the CEO. We have over 450 employees and 9 offices. My mantra? "Better to ask for forgiveness than permission" and "Always hire people that are smarter than yourself". Both are still applicable today. Today we believe that "together we discover, inspire, and shape ideas that transform our world".

    Cons

Working on a larger geographic footprint to allow employees to move around and give them more growth opportunities, both personally and professionally.

I have been working at Clark Nexsen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great for architects. They are treated well, have multiple lunch and learns a week, and can come and go as they please with the flexible work schedule.

    Cons

Once you're in a position, it's very difficult to move up. The flexible work schedule allows people to take advantage of the system, making some employees work 60+ hours a week while others work 20 or 30. People work in silos. Management doesn't listen to employees.

    Advice to Management

    Don't bait and switch.

I have been working at Clark Nexsen full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great growing and progressive company, management is very good at resourcing employees and encouraging professional development.

    Cons

Work is siloed between departments, so interdisciplinary projects can struggle with communication.

I have been working at Clark Nexsen full-time

    Pros

Because Clark Nexsen has a wide variety of clients, it is easy to network with the clients and people from other companies as well as within Clark Nexsen.

    Cons

The Macon Branch is still a small branch of the bigger company (based out of VA) and does not have things like an HR department or IT department in Macon.

    Advice to Management

I would advice better training for new employees. A lot of skills on the job are learned through making mistakes and asking others. it would be helpful to have a training program for things like drawing standards that wouldn't be taught in School and would otherwise have to be learned as it comes up on the job.

Work with many different types of people from all different walks of life.

    Cons

There aren't many opportunities for training on a day to day basis for people with less experience.
Groups tend to work in silos.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Clark Nexsen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Interesting contracts to work on

    Cons

Pay does not reflect experience or workload. Management will not listen to how and what it will take to get a job done and expect others to work 16+ hour days to get the job done. If you do not work the hours then you are reprimanded. Management treats employees as numbers, not people, and when they actually talk to people they talk down to employees.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people and treat them with respect.
