      Pros

People genuinely care about one another and there isn’t the back stabbing feel like I experienced at the Big 4. Leaders are very visible and accessible, and there is a culture of wanting to do the right thing for employees, clients and our communities. In my experience, most everyone lives our values of Respect, Excellence, Accountability and Leadership. Pay is competitive. Benefits are excellent.

      Cons

Lots of change in trying to remove silos that naturally occur when many companies are merged or acquired. No clear reporting structure within Tax and Audit structure makes people feel like they don’t know where to turn for support at times. Not much diversity, though I don’t blame recruiting efforts or management for that. A few old-school shareholders refuse to come in to the 21st century in their ways of thinking.

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience with our accounting firm. We're thrilled to hear that you feel there is a genuine sense of care among colleagues. We pride ourselves on fostering a culture that encourages employees to do the right thing for clients, the community, and each other. We appreciate your feedback regarding the challenges that come with mergers and acquisitions, as well as the lack of a clear reporting structure within Tax and Audit. We understand that this can create uncertainty for employees, and we're constantly striving to improve communication and support within our organization. Regarding diversity, we recognize that there is always room for improvement, and we are committed to creating a more inclusive environment. We believe that being open to new ideas and ways of doing things is critical to our success, and we will continue to strive for progress in this area. Thank you again for your kind words and constructive feedback. We value your contribution to The CSH Way and look forward to continuing to serve you and all of our associates.

        Pros

Great company to work for. Offers good benefits to employees.

        Cons

Minimal training to new staff. Also felt being pressured to obtain CPA certification.

Thanks for taking the time to review us! We're proud to offer great employee benefits. We're also continually working to improve our onboarding program and experience. We recently started reaching out to new hires periodically to gather their feedback and suggestions for onboarding, as we realize the importance of your first days with the firm. Pros

Clark Schaefer Hackett has had an Anytime Anywhere work policy since March 2020 that has provided great flexibility for associates. They also offer a package of benefits that includes health care, profit-sharing, disability, wellness incentives, and employee assistance programs among others. While fledgling, they have implemented an Advancing Women in Leadership (AWIL) firmwide initiative that has helped working mothers in our firm if no one else.

            Cons

Clark Schaefer Hackett places an increasingly HUGE emphasis on billable hours over investment (i.e. PTO, CPE, volunteer, etc.) hours and yet will reprimand employees either in real-time or in semi-annual/annual reviews for blowing budgeted hours. (How is the budget decided, you ask? Either a number is pulled out of a hat or the service manager is using empirically bad historical data because associates feel pressure to eat hours.) While billable hours are not unique to just this one accounting firm, the stress it puts on associates is real. I cannot tell you how many friends I've lost over the years because of the terrible work/life balance. Not only that but the hours charged really don't have any bearing on what we're charging clients. If there is a prenegotiated rate with a client (that barely keeps up with inflation but that's beside the point), why does it matter how many hours are in the WIP? It's merely a metric used to berate staff. Rather than fix the billable hour issue (or any issue really), their 'cure-all' solution is to place an employee engagement survey in the field...and then promptly place its filings in the special filing cabinet known as the trash can. 'They've talked themselves out! That should automatically make them feel better. Why do we need to change anything?!' The percentage rate increases in salaries from year to year are nebulous in terms of how they're determined from employee to employee and don't keep up with inflation. 'We are committed to competitive compensation and meaningful benefits' rings hollow when other employers in our immediate area are providing their associates not only with end-of-year bonuses if they hit certain parameters but also with a mid-year cost of living increase. What good is 5-weeks of PTO if you can only cash out 40 hours once a year and employees feel like they can't take time off for fear of missing budgeted hour goals?

Thank you sincerely for being a valued member of the Clark Schaefer Hackett team for over 9 years. Having so much experience in the industry, and having so much experience with us as we change and grow, gives you a unique perspective that we prioritize. We know that it takes significant time and effort to share your concerns with us, and we appreciate your feedback and your honesty. We would first like to let you know that your concerns are going to the desks of those who make decisions about the employee experience in our Human Resources department. We never want you to feel as though we collect your opinions and toss them aside. Our team works very hard to process and truly understand the feedback we are given so that we can develop strategies to ensure our employees and our clients are protected and feel respected. Sometimes that process takes time, and sometimes changes are made and, perhaps, not communicated as efficiently as we'd like. You may not always see what we're working to improve, but we assure you we are building solutions, and we hear you. That is not to say that we are perfect -- we are not -- but we are growing. We are so honored that you continue to grow on this journey with us. While we recognize that this is an anonymous platform, and we absolutely respect your right to remain anonymous, we would love to learn more from you. If you would like to, you can reach out to talent@cshco.com, and we can book some time for you to speak with the right people, hear more detail about your concerns, and follow up more fully. Again, thank you for all of your hard work.

              - things move slowly due to corporate nature

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience working at our accounting firm. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the benefits we offer, our Flexible Work Policy, the learning and development opportunities, and feel a genuine sense of community within the firm. The people are great. Get to work with smart people. 401k match and other benefits.

                Cons

There is constant change. However, it is needed to stay competitive.

You're right, things rust...things become stagnant when you stand still. Sometimes it's "buckle up and hold on" but I'll take that over stagnation!

The digital team I am on is incredible. Everything gets done in a time efficient manner, and managers are helpful and work along side with you on projects. The benefits are fantastic! You accumulate PTO rather quickly. Work anywhere anytime policy.

                    Cons

Sometimes with the work anywhere anytime policy it can be hard to reach co-workers at certain times.

We understand that the flexibility of our work anywhere anytime policy can sometimes make it challenging to reach co-workers, especially during certain times. Had an interview today and at the end recruiter asked if I was interviewing with another company I was honest and said yes I currently have an offer already with another company. Should I have said that? Worried it may hurt my chances with the interview process going forward.
