I worked at Clarke County School District full-time

    Pros

    Can't think of one sadly.

    Cons

No real consequences for student behaviors, teachers held responsible for students who had meltdowns because they didn't and couldn't do the work - teachers were told to give kids grade level reading to kids who were at a 1st grade reading level. Fighting between kids was constant. Students yelling at staff was typical. Teachers have been and always will be the scapegoats. Who loses? The precious kids who need our help.

    Advice to Management

Teachers are on the front line. Where is your support? Why do you treat educators as expedible commodities?

I have been working at Clarke County School District full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Dedicated teachers and many excellent principals. It's a good place to challenge your own assumptions about poverty and other problems too many of our families face in Clarke County. Small town vibe means Athens is a real community, and teaching gives newbies a chance to become a part of it all, as they step outside UGA and get to know locals who may have been here for generations or may be recent immigrants.

    Cons

District personnel have mixed record of getting input from those affected by initiatives. Here's hoping the new superintendent will open up communication at all levels. CCSD has a pattern of making things harder than they ought to be, but Dr. Means says he wants to simplify our goals. Maybe that can help.

    Advice to Management

Get feedback from those on the frontline. Ask questions. Expect good faith.
