    Pros

A great management team and great colleagues

    Cons

    There are no notable cons

    Advice to Management

Next when deciding on a location - try retail parks instead of in the middle of the town centre

  4. "Pretty good age range of staff and managers"

I have been working at Clas Ohlson part-time

    Pros

good level of pay, also the staff I work with are great people who are mostly of a similar age. The managers are easily approachable and are always free to help with any problems you may have.

    Cons

Some particular people can be seen to be quite lazy and spend too much time on the managers office.

  5. "Slightly naive, but fun place to work"

    Pros

Fun culture to work in. They project an image of inclusiveness and that all employees are important. Good pay structure and benefits. Great initial investment in training for new stores, including a team-building week in Sweden at the head office.

    Cons

They were very naive about the UK market. They insisted on forcing their model on the UK rather than adapting to a new market. The marketing was a difficult sell as the UK consumer just didn't (and still doesn't) get it. The financial predictions for the UK were absolutely ridiculous too, leading to the current situation where they are closing the most unprofitable stores and centering around London. Under better (stronger and more retail experienced) leadership, this needn't have happened.

    Advice to Management

Change strategy to adapt to the UK market. Stop scapegoating those that try to speak up to improve the business and stop surrounding yourself with yes-men. You'll learn far more from those that debate strategy with you, than those who say "yes sir" immediately.

    Pros

Friendly, clear guidelines on what's expected.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for progression.

I worked at Clas Ohlson part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Free fruit in the break room (sometimes)

    Cons

Rotas always posted at the last minute
Scheduling of shifts was a joke
    Bossy, rude management
Nowhere near enough training for specialist products
Pressure always put on staff to improve low sales when the latter was the fault of the company buying a crap location and spending no money on advertising
'Team challenges' which pitted employees against each other
Any complains were met with 'well you'd be much worse off elsewhere'
I actually earned more money on the dole

    Advice to Management

    MUCH more training needed

I worked at Clas Ohlson part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Two days of training. Free fruit, tea and coffee in the break room. Extra hours if you wanted them. You worked in a station for an hour ex: 1h tills and then move on to one hour at multimedia for example. Very good and variously! Commission split equally between all colleagues.

    Cons

Took over a month to learn where everything in the store was. Tip is to do deliveries and you'll learn where everything is quicker!

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Clas Ohlson part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Atleast it's clean indoor job.

    Cons

The company absolutely doesn't care about its employees. The motivation of its staff is low, 80% of people are part time, and me and many of my co-workers who i've been able to talk to in our country and other stores have had to turn to social welfare to be able to pay the bills. This is what kind of company we are talking about. Every bad and appalling thing you associate with retail business, Clas Ohlson does it. They used to have full time jobs available, but now there seems to be absolutely no full-time sales people in new stores that are starting. Clas Ohlson doesn't care, as long as they can save some money, even if it's at the expense of it's own employees. Disgusting. Of course the PR is full of generic blah blah about how Clas Ohlson cares about their employees and they are important to it. That's not the case. If you're a student and thinking about getting a summer job and save some money for the winter, think twice. I've seen many who are disappointed after the summer and finding out the summer job is actually 5 hours / week, and the 16 year old kids selling ice cream make more money at their summer job. They will probably tell you how "the contract is 5 hours / week, but you will certainly get more than that". Don't believe them.

    Advice to Management

Atleast you could offer your staff enough hours to actually be able to pay their bills.
