I worked at Clausen Miller full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, holiday parties are great, early Friday closures during holidays, transit checks to those who come in on time, summer outings(although they've cut back a lot since then) great staff some may be to themselves. Office manager is strict but fair when it comes to work

    Cons

    Low pay
    Staff can be treated unfairly
Office manager plays favorites and hangs at attorneys offices for too long with the doors closed
Some partners/shareholders can be very nepot type like
    Mild racism
    Poor bonuses for staff
    No growth
1-2% raise averages out to $600 more on your salary
    Revolving door
    Shrinking office space
Budget cuts... yet partners still make the usual 60-70k bonus... yeah ok lol

    Advice to Management

Try to create more of a culture like setting and learn to appreciate the staff more

    Pros

It is a job if you're desperate!

    Cons

If you liked high school, clicks, gossip, snitches and teacher's pets, you'll love it here. HR does not lead with encouragement, but believes that employees who are nervous to lose their job will work harder. Several partners (one in particular) participate in snitching on assistants, making a point to listen to private conversations. Several secretaries like to make other secretaries miserable with nasty attitudes, being bullies or being outwardly racist. The prior HR manager had a term for it, something like the "black girls club". Other secretaries refuse to learn aspects of Word, like formatting or tables and hand off their work to other secretaries or the only overflow secretary. The overflow secretary takes her time in completing work while she mingles, gossips and watches movies on her iPad. The president has his issues with remaining professional with certain women staff members ... it's a joke. No job is worth this stress or depressive atmosphere!!! It's its own world.

    Advice to Management

Get training ... stop breaking HIPAA rules and learn how to Management! Better yet ... just leave!

I have been working at Clausen Miller full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good hours & benefits are good!

    Cons

Nepotism! Senior partner is trying to set up his kids to run the office except one small problem! They aren't that bright! The Office politics above my pay grade is something out of Game of Thrones.

    Advice to Management

All I know is this is a stepping stone for me but from what I can see - Get rid of the dead wood in Chicago & stop hiring your kids! Just my 2 cents!

    Pros

Good benefits, yearly salary increase, vision, dental, medical, life insurance, profit sharing, 401K

    Cons

If you're not somebody who knows somebody there... you're nobody.

    Advice to Management

    Time for new management.

    Pros

Great people to work with. Hours were very good. Friendly atmosphere.

    Cons

My boss was a terrible micromanager. He wanted to tell me how to handle even the smallest of tasks.

    Advice to Management

Set your workers free to be more entrepreneurial. Let them make some decisions and own some mistakes. Would help with morale.

I worked at Clausen Miller full-time

    Pros

Good hours. Left to do your own work. Partners are nice, social, and will take an interest in you. Not especially demanding. Bagel Fridays.

    Cons

Poor long term outlook (NY OFFICE), many of the big rainmakers are getting older, and only a few are being groomed to replace them. Salary is about 10k-15k below market for this type of work. Top heavy. Most of the support staff is nice but lazy and make a ton of mistakes.

    Pros

There is room for growth. The attorneys and other staff are great you get a real family feel. Free breakfast on Friday

    Cons

Other than the salaries for support staff. The company is good. No yearly raises. Voluminous amount of work for such a bad salary.
