I worked at Clear Channel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pretty good place to work with a lot of perks such as concert tickets at area venues. Also, exciting to be in the music industry.

    Cons

politics, in a word. Like any large corporation, everyone is trying to climb the ladder of success so you sometimes their efforts to do so will be on the backs of others.

I worked at Clear Channel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I love the radio business but...

    Cons

The St Louis leadership starting with Dennis L. (his wife was a manager) and now Beth D. Poor leadership. I would not follow in to battle. "Go up and down Manchester Rd. and collect business cards and bring them back." Huh?

    Advice to Management

Read Dale Carnegie. Quit playing games.

I worked at Clear Channel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting culture, broadcast field, interactive with many businesses

    Cons

Ego driven management, no focus on local product, fails to invest in staff and completely focused on automating all positions.

    Advice to Management

Return to being a broadcasting company rather than second-class accounting firm. Shed debt by succeeding rather than eliminating positions which could be profitable if allowed.

    Pros

Always changing. Fast paced. Results driven.

    Cons

No raises. Cost cutting is hurting the products. Talented people are leaving the company and the industry

    Advice to Management

People are the product. Have to devise a plan to be visible in the local markets

I worked at Clear Channel part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Market Leader with a national footprint of stations

    Cons

Went private and tried to cut their way back to profitability. It did not work. They lost too many dedicated people.

    Advice to Management

You can never go back to what radio was. Times have changed.

    Pros

Monopolized markets create earnings opportunities. Clear Channel has grown to have some of the best resources in the industry. No other company can offer the opportunities in the short term that Clear Channel can.

    Cons

No longer community or employee oriented. Clear Channel has forgotten what made them and the rest of the industry successful. Talented people going above and beyond to get the job done are no longer a part of this company. If you are not a corporate drone with no original thoughts, you don't want to be a part of the sompany. Seek out opportunities with smaller broadcasters, you will find a more enjoyable experience.

    Advice to Management

Stop managing from the top down and start listening to your street soldiers.

I worked at Clear Channel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Clear Channel has many resources at their fingertips. They are the biggest radio group in the country and have a lot of power in each market.

    Cons

Don't expect to make a lot of money at this company, and if you do, don't expect to be there long. No market is safe, past performance no longer matters. In fact, if you've earned your way to the top, and the raises that go along with success, you are more likely to get whacked.

    Advice to Management

Sell some radio stations before you layoff more people. With over 1,000 radio stations, you could sell a few hundred to get to the bottom line a lot faster than laying people off.
