I have been working at Cleveland Clinic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The great team I work with, the medical benefits.

    Cons

Terrible management, Nepotism, having to use PTO for holidays that they force you to take. Terrible pay for the responsibilities that are placed upon you.

    Advice to Management

Try treating your PSRs with respect. You really have NO clue how incredibly difficult this job has become. When ideas are brought up on how to run the department more efficiently, you are immediately shot down and told to get your resume together and start looking for another job. As a PSR, all you do is try to schedule patients in slots that don't exist. Physicians send patients out to follow up in 6 weeks when the provider already knows he is booking out 6 months. So now you have to beg the provider for an add on slot. You are expected to work like a dog all day on messages, phones, patients in front of you, log into about 6 different programs, balance your co -pays. You can't even use the bathroom.

Then add on the favoritism and nepotism from management. They will also lie about the hours you will work so you will take the position. They are able to change your days, shifts and departments you work as they see fit. There is the door if you don't like it. It is a revolving door. They need to really look at the degree of difficulty of being a PSR and adjust the pay scale and the inadequate training. Maybe they would then be able to retain quality PSRs.

Patients are NOT first. No one wants to use the ridiculous KIOSKS to check in. They do not work properly. Someone's butt is on the line for these overpriced iPads. They dumped so much money into them that they CANNOT fail. So just to get the numbers needed for corporate to be happy, PSRs are now required to attack people when they get off the elevators and bully them into using them. It is degrading to hear all day "Why are you pushing something that is designed to get rid of your job". And you have to smile and say "No, it is to help us".

My entire attitude about the Cleveland Clinic has changed. I was proud to work there, now not so much. It is not all it is cracked up to be. The way they reschedule patients is dangerous. Pushing them out months to be seen.

It really is a poorly run operation.

    Pros

Nurses are always willing to help and the workload isn't as bad compared to other places. The work becomes less due to the help.

    Cons

Staffing is at times troubling, certain days you work alone with 24 patients. Although there is always help from other staff.

    Advice to Management

    Allow proper time for staffing

I worked at Cleveland Clinic as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Work directly with staff and entire departments. Make great connections. If you score a good mentor you are guaranteed to learn a lot. It is a paid internship.

    Cons

Scoring a good mentor is a like winning the lottery. There are many bad mentors and few exceptional ones. Pay is usually minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Screen mentors better, and have them submit a project proposal before the interns arrive.
