I worked at Cliffs Natural Resources full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good Pay. Good Insurance that you do not have to pay into. Good people to work with.

    Cons

Forced overtime. Bad Management decisions. Union is losing all important arbitrations. Not a very good balance between work and family time. Things have gotten worse since Cliffs was overtaken by a hedge fund. Contractors allowed on the property to do work that laid off people can and should be doing. Not enough man power to keep the place clean and safe. No pension for people hired after 2016.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the advice that has already been given to you instead of passing it off. People have good ideas to improve the workplace. You can all work together to make the place better and safer. Attitudes need to change.

I worked at Cliffs Natural Resources full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cliff's Natural Resources had a great family culture and open communication. The company allowed an employee to really grow and learn.

    Cons

The lack of progressive flexible work options and poor management were two areas that Cliff's could have improved on.

    Advice to Management

Management's needs to be more objective in its internal employee reviews. I've seen more ruan one person passed up for a promotion or opportunity when they were the most qualified. There is too much politics and favoritism.

I worked at Cliffs Natural Resources (More than a year)

    Pros

I was given direct responsibility to research and implement modifications to the some of the production equipment. The work week was four, ten hour days.

    Cons

Management was completely out of touch with the process. In addition, management has no control and lacks any respect with the production personnel.

    Advice to Management

Before promoting people into positions of authority, the General Manager should determine if the individual is a leader people will follow. All managers should conduct themselves in a professional manner. It is difficult to trust and follow the guidance of a manager, if all they do during speeches is look at the ground and cannot look you in the eye.
