Most of the special education staff were professional and friendly. Building Principals were pleasant and easy to work with as were most teachers.
The parents were pleasant and appreciative of all services offered their children.
The special education administration was top heavy; many supervisors to answer to and each had different expectations. They did not communicate with each other.
Antagonistic environment between support staff; secretaries, clerks, etc.
It is a very big district and a very large work load. Supervisors were very busy and didnot give clear expectations and guidelines as far as workload, working as a team, supporting their employees.
Employees there a long time tended to be cliqueish and very defensive when things were tried a different way.
Advice to Management
Break up central special ed office into smaller units.
Support new staff with clear guidelines and expectations.
Supervisors should be more accessible as mentors and less as critics and defenders.
